The truth is every one of these kids is a crap-shoot, it’s just like hiring someone off the street...
You can have great references, solid job history, interviews, etc. that’s life in general...no guarantees, just minalizing the down side as much as possible...only one guarantee...there will be 2 and three stars that perform much better than expected and 4 & 5 star busts - happens in every class, every year - natural attrition...no way around it
It’s called statistics and standard deviations -

I know what you mean, but we've gone over all of this many times. Less 5-stars bust, on average, than lower rated prospects...and so and so forth.
We want the players that are rated the highest.

Absolutely, the numbers prove what you are saying! Bring on more 5 stars! (This is the only serious part)
Maybe we can start rating recruits by number of shrimp instead of stars?
Did you know Jacob Hester was a two Shrimp rated recruit? In honor of Ed O!!!
