Longhorns don’t like dogs.

Hundreds of years of evolution fighting coyotes and wolves for survival is ingrained in their dna. They can’t distinguish between wild and domestic canines.

I’ve heard that this is why you see mules (or maybe donkeys - I prefer to remain undereducated) in fields with cattle. The mules hate canines too but are aggressive in keeping them away.
