You guys can put out all the trades and what the team would look like on paper but you are skipping a HUGE step?

Who is the coach? Who is the GM? What is the system?

If AD turns down the contract, does Dell get to start the rebuild? With a Gentry rebuild in mind? Or, does a new guy come and do the rebuild and does he hire another coach with a different system?

That is far more important than how the roster looks on paper. If they trade AD, they need to do it right for once. Bring in a GM and coach with a long term vision. Build a culture. Build depth, develop internally, use the new G League team, etc.

That's far more important IMO

I personally like Gentry's system, I dont like his rotations though. I think we can win with his system if we have the right players with depth (that's the key) where we are not having to play jrue 38-41 minutes. Dell has gotten smarter and more calculated with his moves these last 2 years and pretty much came out ahead in all trades, so I would be comfortable with him pulling off an AD trade and believe he would get max value in return.

Yep, if AD declines the extension, you immediately fire Demps and Gentry and let the new blood start the rebuild from scratch.

Dell will be gone this summer if AD is being traded. Gentry would be gone too. With Tom out of the picture and no pressure to keep AD, they will do a proper ground up rebuild. I think any new GM will focus on draft assets and young players in an AD trade to sell excitement and development as opposed to taking vets and trying to stay in NBA limbo. Too early to speculate on the new GM/coach combo, but I would think they will have a pace/movement philosophy as that is what works and sells enthusiasm.

It is easy to project the teams who have been after him (BOS & LAL) as interested, but there is so much space available this summer it is unknown what teams will be looking to form the next super team. Someone like the Hawks will have high draft picks and multiple young assets plus room for 2 max contracts. The Nets are going to have space and assets, the knicks will have space, the Bulls will have space and assets.

If the Bulls, Nets, Knicks, or Hawks get the #1 overall, they have the draft capital and young assets to get AD and the space to sign another max if not 2 to keep him. Chicago would let him play in his hometown potentially with his buddy Kyrie.
