I LOVE this game this year as far as gameplay goes. I’m getting 2k16 vibes of enjoyment. Currently sitting at 14-2, I’m really digging the Celtics (tier 1) and Mavs (tier 3). Not sold on a tier 2 team yet. I typically play as my Blazers but games get a lil too tight for my liking due to having a thin front court. Blake Griffin/Drummond and AD/Mirotic are beasts. Drummond in particular dominates boards every game.

Pros to this year’s game (from a ranked h2h perspective):

* Defense is back for first time since ‘16. Playing as Boston using Marcus Smart, I can feel his defense intensity. 2k18 has a shitty blow by mechanism that made defense unplayable. I legit had instances where I took Lebron off the dribble and finished with Aminu
* Less cheese. This goes with the above. With defense being beefed, you see less zig zag BS and less P&R with one side of the court cleared out (I forgot the play in particular; this was abused to hell last year).
* There’s multiple ways to score. The inside game feels good. Bigs don’t miss layups when a 6’1” PG isndefensing them under the rim. Smart offense and scheming actually pays off.

Cons:

* this is huge... why tf are legendary teams in tier 3? I enjoy using the T3 teams most because there’s more innovation. There’s little superstar spam (meaning taking 30+ shot with LBJ/KD/etc). Ppl have to learn to utilize their bench and make plays with low rating guys. T3 is just fun because it forces the user to win by using all of their resources.

* Inside game is perhaps too easy. I’ve had Deandre Jordan go 7-9 from the field hitting hook shots like Hakeem with my post defender draped all over him. Same with wing players, Aaron Gordon is like Lebron tumbling into the lane.

Anyway, I hope to keep this going

I do wish 2k payed more attention to the lesser teams and even the lesser players on winning teams. And at same time, not inflate a superstars rating(s) for the sake of him being great.

A great example of this is Nikola Jokic having a decent 3pt rating even though he’s at 29%. Westbrook last year was hovering around that same %, had a 77 3pt rating, meanwhile Lillard was at something like 36% and had a 78 rating. I get it. If RW has a 3pt rating that properly reflects him irl, then good users will play off of him thus taking away his superb drive ability, which you could still do, you just can’t run in a straight line. It’s to get noobs to feel good about themselves.

I mostly stick with MyCareer but the grind has killed my enthusiasm to play it.

For settings to defend the P&R spam you’ll encounter, I always set my defense to guard baseline (forgot the specific setting but set it to middle), and have your C stay attached on the P&R. I also like to ICE the P&R too. This allows me to defend against the roller while still potentially getting a turnover if the ball handler forces a pass.

I set to have my defense give up middle because most users go baseline where the help defense usually isn’t there and if there is, it’s coming from the corner which leads to an easy corner 3. Also, baseline has always been easier to blow by in 2k going all the way back to 2k11. By forcing middle, unless they’re running a 5 out offense, you’ll have the help defense rotate over on the slasher without giving up an easy bucket.

Another top would be to learn when to on ball and off ball defense. P&R logic is still flawed no matter the settings; I like to off ball those.

I’ve lost a few since starting 14-2. I think the Pels are my official tier 2 team. A lineup of Jrue, Moore, Miller, Niko, and AD is tough to match up with. And if I’m nursing a lead late, Jrue, Solo, Miller/Johnson/, Niko and AD is TOUGH to score on. Jrue can shut down primary ball handlers while AD is the best big on the game.

Just played my first game post ASB. The Blazers with Kanter and Hood is scary! So much better having another post threat outside of Nurkic. Although Leonard is low key a beast with his 88 3pt and with his spacing I can get easy Pick and pop opportunities and when they’re cheating he dunks on em!
