I'm looking for choice or select (10-12 lbs). Doesn't need to be bone in. I'm guessing Restaurant Depot will be the best bet.
Have any of you seen any good deals?

Sounds like you're looking for Select Rib.

Some family members deserve choice, others deserve select. I'm just seeing if anyone has seen deals anywhere.

I was in Nola Costco this morning. Lots of nice looking prime rib roast and racks for good price.

Rouses has select for $5.97/lb. at the Lafayette locations - would think it's the same in the N.O. stores.

Just came from Costco and they have boneless prime rib for $11.39 a lb. Pretty good price for that cut of meat, especially in Prime. They were running between 15-19 lbs. each.

wrong, the term Prime rib does not indicate the grade of meat, a Prime rib can be select, choice or prime

If its select or choice, its not prime rib!!

Incorrect! If it is select or choice it is considered a rib roast!

What do you think restaurants serve?
Less than 2% of meat is prime.

Is Prime rib made from Prime beef? What is higher quality meat, Choice or Select? And how does Angus beef rank? Allow us to settle any beefs you may have over different grades of beef. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grades beef for quality and consistency, designating the meat with eight different grades. From highest grade to lowest, they are: --Prime --Choice --Select More On This... Every taco recipe you’ll ever need America’s Big-Money Beef New cut of steak discovered --Standard --Commercial --Utility --Cutter --Canner Only about two percent of all beef graded by the USDA qualifies for Prime distinction. Most restaurants serve Prime or Choice beef. Another grading program is Certified Angus Beef, a designation awarded by Wooster, Ohio-based Certified Angus Beef LLC. The mark applies to approximately eight per cent of all USDA-graded beef that derives from Angus stock and meets certain quality criteria. A cow that provides Angus certified meat must have Angus parentage and a coat that is at least 51 percent black. Warning: Do not confuse Prime beef with prime rib — the prime rib refers to the location from where the meat is cut, not the graded quality of the beef. The grades refer primarily to the amount of fat marbling in the muscle; Prime beef must contain no less than eight per cent intramuscular fat. And you wondered why it tastes so good!

While often referred to as "prime rib", the USDA does not require the cut to be derived from USDA Prime grade beef.[1]

depends on the restaurant I would expect "standard" for golden corral, Prime at Ruth Chris' or flemmings and a lot in between

Why would you buy select and not choice if you’re splurging for prime rib? Select beef is tough and not very flavorful.

Man, ya'll can make simple things rather complicated.
Boneless Ribeye (lip on or lip off) in its whole form is a ribeye roast and cut to desired thickness is a ribeye steak.
What you call 'prime rib" is simply a ribeye roast.
Now this ribeye roast or steak can be multiple grades, but you will only find prime, choice or select in 99% of retail establishments or wholesale clubs.
Longhorn, outback, golden coral etc almost exclusively use select grade.
A well marbled choice grade boneless ribeye roast will serve you well.

I would also add, these USDA graded beef cuts are graded quickly on 1/2's or 1/4's of whole cows, not on each individual cut. A "prime" grade on the lower end of the scale may not be much better than a "choice" grade at the higher end of the scale. The cut with the most small, speck marbling in the interior of the meat will be best, regardless of what the quick grading done by the USDA stamps on it.
