re: Cypress tree hit with beetles

Can't help you with cypress, but I got hit hard with beetles this year in longleaf. Foresters that I've talked to were surprised because LL isn't as susceptible to beetles.

You need to spray your trees 10' to 15' height with bifen or pymetherin (bigen xts is oil based - better for outdoor use.) When the beetles move to a tree, they'll eat through the bark to get to the cambium layer beneath the bark. Same for leaving a tree. They hit that chemical they'll get smoked.

You will probably be safe to wait until later before temps start to climb, but temps are so jabber-wocky it would be worth spraying a few times in the winter. Pretty cheap preventative compared to cutting trees down.
