Read ordinary men: reserve police battalion 101 and the final solution in Poland. Most of the people who committed these crimes were regular men. The Tom, dick, and Harry off the street.

A guy I have know for a long time was once a prison guard, for him at the time it was a good job, one day he came home early, and told his wife he had quit, she asked what happened, and he said "I realized what I had become."
