I have been in the heavy civil construction business since 1982, my freshman year of college. I have been involved with MANY industrial and petrochem projects, all over the world.....they are smooth sailing.

The road projects I have been involved with......let's just say, take the DOTD out of the picture, and things would be done in half the time, and cost.....

I disagree with taking the DOTD out of the picture, in the 25 years I've been involved in construction and inspection the DOTD went from being able to control jobs and force contractors to somewhat do things right to the state we're in now where the contractors have all the power. I feel for any of the DOTD construction inspectors now, if they try to hold a contractor responsible for anything a few calls are usually made and the contractor gets his way. Hell most if the time we pay them to fix their screwups. I know a large statewide contractor that has a team of personnel assigned to find a minimum of a million dollars in change orders in every contract they bid on and win. And we pay them to fix these imaginary problems that weren't in the contract. Bid lower and get the State to help you out in the end.

That's where our problems lie.

They have their stupid department name in the acronym twice. What else should we expect besides FUBARs?

Department Of Transportation Department. How stupid is that?
