Yes. I find something therapeutic about digging a grave. As a result I tend to dig quite large and overly deep holes. But in the moment I don't want to stop and have to say goodbye forever.

I know of a farming family in Ms that insists on digging their own graves for their relatives. Sort of a tradition.

pet cemetery is out back, you may find it easier to simply say "i'll see you later" rather than "good bye" as your paths will cross again, they will be waiting for you, your time will come, just not yet...

My dog of 13 years died a couple of summers ago and I buried her at noon in August.
I owed that girl all that sweat and those tears, and it felt right to pay it to her.
