I’m on the AKC finder website. There aren’t many options in this area and most breeders don’t ship puppies. Most of them on this site have the dams and sires listed followed by an id like this:
Sire: Beaux Jangles Dephillips (DN46284506)
Dam: Charlie Jean Dephillips (DN40428104)

But some of them don’t have any google results. So my question is I’m not sure what to do with those names. I want to make sure I research their bloodline. Here are my results for 250 from my house. I am looking for a sable female puppy.

Any tips?

Yes...don't do it. And definitely don't do it based on the AKC website.

What do you like about GSDs? What do you want from your dog? Just a best bud or personal protection, running buddy? German Shepherds can be great, my favorite breed in fact, but careless breeding has practically ruined them. Health problems,"nerve" problems (temperament), lots of poor examples of the breed out there.

If you like a German Shepherd for what they are supposed to be (aloof, intelligent, hard, moderate to high drive, very stable nerve), then seek out a working GSD breeder. If you just like the look but could care less about the rest, don't get one, or get a rescue.

Anyone who buys any dog from any breeder should insist on health testing of parents. For GSDs that would include OFA hips and elbows at a minimum.

Some can be quite protective. I had one that hid behind me at the vet and he said it was a trait or something in a protective one. Mine was a son of a police dog. Very smart, but did not like folks not in his knowledge. Integrate the puppy with all kinds of people and animals early. I didn't.

I’ve had many friends who have wanted a Shepard but have ultimately opted for a German Malinois. She should definitely look into this breed.

Google, "Old World German Shepherd breeders". These are the straight back shepherds and they are much healthier in my opinion.

I have a doberman and absolutely love him. Is very friendly but also protective when it calls for it. We had GSD growing up and a good friend has two right now I wouldn't trade them for my doberman. Another breed to think about.

Where you located, Van Rich?

I can provide you some reputable breeders in TN for a working line Shepherd. I’m in north MS and protection work has become a passion of mine.

Let me caution you though, be prepared to spend thousands on a dog like this. And be prepared to devote a lot of time (at least 3-4 hours a day, every single day) to a dog like this.
These types of dogs are also not bought on impulse or as a gift. People usually interview several breeders and can wait a year for the right puppy. What you want is for a breeder to ask you what you’re looking for and pair you with the correct litter being breed based on the side ans bitch’s genes, then help you select the right pup from such

If this isn’t a commitment you can make, then there are plenty of good Shepherds that are available for adoption.

(FYI, I see you are wanting a sable Shepherd, those are mostly of the working line breed)

Aldamar

Check them out. My next dog will be from there. I toured the kennel and checked out all the dogs.

I had one when I was little. The shedding is crazy and youll have to brush them a lot. A lot of energy and very smart. We couldnt keep ours in a kennel. She would destroy them.

We would actually shave her in the summer because of the heat.

I made a jok about the Malinois earlier, but their coat is shorter. Might look into those.

You could probably look up Southern Mals on Facebook. I know the guy, he was bringing them from europe I think and trainimg them in Abita. I dont think he os doing it anymore, but send him a message on Facebook and he should respond.

I'm hooked on boxers, especially with a 4 year old. Those dogs are just goofy and playful.

There are several breeders in North Louisiana. Have you done a Facebook search for a GSD group?
