Dick's Sporting Goods warns about gun-policy backlash as sales slide LINK

While Chief Executive Officer Edward Stack previously said the firearms policy brought in new customers and sales were reported as flat in August, Dick’s has now warned that “negative reaction” could affect future results.

Sales at Dick’s Sporting Goods dropped in the past three months amid backlash against tighter gun-sale restrictions following a mass killing early this year at a Florida high school.

Revenue dipped 4.5 percent to $1.86 billion amid challenges in the company’s hunting business during the quarter through Nov. 3. Sales at stores open at least 12 months – a key metric for the retail industry – fell 6.1 percent compared to the prior year.

Dick’s raised the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21 and stopped selling assault rifles last February after a Valentine’s Day shooting in Broward County that left 17 students and staff dead. LINK

But they are not going to change a thing. Profits and shareholder responsiblity be damned. They have virtue to signal!

Academy is crushing them in my town

I work in a technical field. My job is almost all technical, with little business aspects. And even I have wonder why you would willingly piss off your own customer base to appeal to SJWs who don't shop at your store. Either you don't know your customers or you let your out of control emotions guide your business decisions.

Appealing to SJWs is never a good business decision, unless you are Starbucks who offers free wi-fi.

The entire Stack family are self-aggrandizing retards; you should hear some of the stuff they are infamous for saying on store visits.

They never fixed their golf business.

They never fixed their hunting business.

They never found a way to compete with Academy.

Their corporate HQ is staffed by a combination of (1) the most beautiful young women that have recently graduated from Pitt with business or marketing degrees (2) failures from other failed companies - K-Mart, Sears, they'll hire anyone that helped destroy a major American brand.

Academy, Cabela’s, and Bass Pro have to be loving this shite.

More business for them without having to change a thing.

The half dozen times I've been to a Dick's here locally there were more salesmen in the store than customers.

It appears to be a case of trying to bring in new customers by appealing to them and denigrating your current customers.

That can work when your current customers have few alternatives to shop from and/or the new customers buy more than the old ones.

Doesn’t work so well when there are at least three other huge chain stores covering sports and outdoors and the new customers they are bringing in are buying shite which is low volume or low profit compared to weapons and ammo.

I personally haven't been back in since they made the decision. It's Academy for everything now.
We all make choices. I can live with mine.

My son works for Scheel's and they are crushing Dicks. In fact they are crushing those you have listed in cities where they go head to head.

Scheel's is building the largest sporting goods store in the world next to the Nebraska Furniture Mart in Dallas. Its going to be yuge.

Did anybody take them to court over this? Because, at least to me, that sounds like it's illegal.

Truth be known, Academy was crushing them everywhere before they went and did their virtue signaling...

I can only imagine it has gotten worse...

Dick's miscalculated. They announced that they weren't going to sell guns, but their sister stores, Field and Stream, continued to sell guns. In fact, they were just shifting their marketing but still actually selling guns, while claiming they were not. Non gun buying public didn't care. Gun buying public did care.

I’ve never liked the place. To be honest I’ve only been in one once, and didn’t make it past the greeter. This was a couple of years before their ban.

I happened to be in Metry and on the way home came across the Dick’s near Lakeside or Lakeview or whatever that mall is called. I’d been on the hunt for .303 ammo so I thought I’d see if they had any. I walked in and asked the guy where their ammunition was. He gave me a look as though I suddenly grew a third eye and said “we don’t sell guns here.” I said okay and made an about face out of there.
