2 things. First, Alexa + FireTV works well with several of the streaming services so you can easily change channels "Alexa change channel to ESPN". 2nd there are "add ons" for FireTV remotes like the SideClick that give it basic IR functionality for On/Off Up/Down with volume. The newest FireTV remotes have this basic IR functionality built in.
The days of channel surfing may be gone forever, but the new way of watching TV keeps improving and has it's own set of positives that I'd miss if I went back to traditional cable.

Yeah, I keep telling myself it's just that your old and used to the old ways :-) I know part of the answer is to change watching habits, but 50 years of habit is hard to change.
