Why not more JUCO recruitment

*Spoiler* I’m not a recruiting expert..... but it seems like there are a lot of descent players available that could fill needs immediately..... just scrolling through I see where the top 5 teams currently have garnered commitments from some JUCO DL and OL.... seems we do it too but there are some doozies available right now.
I know we have Travez Moore and Traore

JUCO players are Band-Aids for your program. Majority are hit or miss. To be successful long term, you must recruit and develop guys out of HS.

Doesn't LSU have some juco guys in their sights?

Yes. One or two a year isn't a huge deal, but when you start having to plug in 3, 4, and 5 guys a year with JUCO it becomes a problem IMO.

LSU could use depth on both sides of the line.

How's that working out with Traore? Like I said, hit or miss, and that spot is wasted.

Not if they are better than what you have.
Burrow is basically a JUCO transfer. In terms of eligibility

but isn't in every other way
you can't compare 2-3 years in a legit, major program to 2 years in a JUCO. the preparation and coaching is exponentially different

Traore was #1 rated O lineman coming out of JUCO. Yet now a/c to some “he sucks.” LSU has the singular misfortune of signing highly-rated players on offense, who for some reason, underachieve at LSU.

According to some? He's objectively terrible.

Then you got to start looking at the coaching these kids are getting at these positions. At some point, the shtick about the players being overrated falls flat.

I don't think it's wasted. I think he needed some time to develop some. If he can provide a starters spot or provide depth next year then he was valuable IMO.
Of course you want to get the best players from HS first but if you can't then adding 2 or 3 players until you have the attention of the top HS recruits isn't a bad thing. It is a bandaid but a needed one at this point in Os program.
They also need to get out there in the country and evaluate better DLman and rush OLBs. IMO the rest of our roster has been fixed for the future. We have great LBs (except for a rusher) we have real quality WRs, quality QBs, quality RBs, quality DBs, and great OLman including future OTs with Rosenthal Wire, Traore, Deculus, Charles and Parker. The only true LTs are Wire, Rosenthal and Parker the rest are RTs and all need to develop BUT we do have better talent at the tackle position overall then we did even last year and for sure the year before.
I think we'll be fine at OG and OC but this line needed some rebuilding in a major way. Now that we have them all here they can start to build a two deep while all working together to build some real chemistry. I think our OL is in better shape then people realize. It's just going to be how these kids develop now.
The DL is a much different story and it needs to be addressed in this class, then we can add some real depth in 2020 and hopefully 21. I was hoping that we could add some big strong DLman in 2019.

Probably not as much as the coaches would like. I think next year's class is supposed to be deeper with Dline prospects.

Yea 2020 is a great year for LSU in the DL department BUT what I'm saying is that if this staff and this program wants to turn a corner to championship level football on a consistent basis then we need to add 3 to 4 elite or top 20 DLman every year. Then add 2 rush OLBs with different skill sets as well. Get 1 speed end then go get another heavier OLB for the run game. One of those athletic 6'3 to 6'6 260 to 275 lb ends who is quick but can play the run also. They're out there. Cam Jordan types. I know there aren't a crap ton of that talent out there but go get an aggressive TE who is in this range then cross train him.

Dude. Id rather a 2 year juco stud than a 2 year major program bench warmer.
I get your point and we are bith right in different circumstances.
Most, or many, JUCO guys were absolute hs studs, just some kind of grade issue pushed them to juco

I've been out of coaching a few years but we used to always say, they are at JUCO for a reason. Many times it's grades, character issues etc. You don't want a guy that will be awful toward your culture. Also the point made above about not wanting to go overboard, with the number of JUCO guys. They can absolutely help and usually are ready quicker than a HS kid.

It’s blatantly obvious LSU has fallen far behind in Oline recruitment and development,it is by far the biggest fault with this team

and many grad transfers were studs without the grad/character issues (like Burrow)
