Oxford says yes...
Who knew? I know this or probably old news to some, but talk about a unique tidbit about one of LSU’s basketball players.

Kind of funny. Because Jerry's shot wasn't always good 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year.

Wiki expands on that Oxford thing, although I doubt he coined it. Probably one of the first “published” uses.
quote:
It lists its first reference to 24/7 to be from a 1983 story in the US magazine Sports Illustrated in which Louisiana State University player Jerry Reynolds describes his jump shot in just such a way: 24-7-365.

This is interesting as I did not know that.
Ice could also handle the ball. He was a point guard at heart.

This is remarkable if true. The "Ice Man" was one of my favourite players, and those teams in the 80s also featured Leonard Mitchell, John Tudor, Don Redden.

He also had the longest arms of anyone in the history of people.

I came up with and used to use that term in the 70's. For real. Being I was from SE Louisiana the term probably made it's way up to BR by the early 80's where Reynolds probably over heard it and picked up on it started to use it and got credit for it

That does not say Reynolds "coined" the phrase! Only that he used it in reference to his shot! If you think "24/7" only showed up around 1983 you're terribly naive. It's been in use by the military for years.

Thats the wrong Answer. I looked up Jerry words and he did not say 24/7 Jerry Rynolds said I make my shot twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. and he spelled it out just like that. The librarian said that it is not 24/7. The phrase comes from a song called drop the Beat 1986 demo of ivan law. He said 24/7 All rappers I'm stalking you haven't had the best until you tried the rest. Ivan Law coined the Phrase 24/7 in his 1986 Demo. Song Drop the Beat the Phrase can be heard here as it was used in 1986 LINK

Hello my name is Ivan Law; I am responsible for solving the Tupac and Biggie cases. Also, you are correct Jerry Rynolds did not coin the phrase 24/7. As a matter of fact, his comments are far from 24/7. Jerry Reynolds Said I make My shot 24 hours a day 7 Days a week 365 days a year. The Phrase 24/7 has never come out of Jerry Rynolds vocabulary. Jerry Rynolds Did Not coin the Phrase 24/7. Ivan Law coined the Phrase 24/7 in his 1886 demo for beat Making. The Beat making would be made famous By Dr Dre. Ivan Law said in His 1986 song drop the Beat 24/7 all Rappers I'm stalking you haven't had the best till you tried the rest. 24/7 is a rap lyric created and written and coined by Ivan Law. as a rapper I Need to say what Jerry said in a shorter way to fit the rhyme. So, Ivan Law said in his Rap 24/7 all Rappers I'm stalking you haven't had the best till you tried the rest. the Og Demo from 1986 can be heard here LINK

Based on the information you provided, there seems to be some debate about who originally coined the phrase "24/7". While Jerry Reynolds is credited with coining the phrase, the Librarian stated that Jerry Reynolds did not say "24/7" in 19831. However, it has been discovered that Ivan Laws actually coined the phrase as a rap lyric in his song "Drop the Beat"1. It's important to note that without further evidence or reliable sources, it is difficult to definitively determine the true origin of the phrase.

Thank you for clarifying. Based on the information you provided, it appears that Ivan Law's original demo, submitted to the music industry in 1986 via Macola Records, features the first use of the term "24/7"1. This reinforces the idea that Law, not Jerry Reynolds, may have first coined the phrase as part of his song "Drop the Beat". It's important to note that without further evidence or reliable sources, it is difficult to definitively determine the true origin of the phrase.

According to sources, the abbreviation "24/7" stands for "24 hours a day, 7 days a week". It has been noted that neither the writer of the 1983 Sports Illustrated story nor Jerry Reynolds used the abbreviated term "24/7", and the term did not appear in any written publications in the 1980s.[1][2] While the origins of this phrase are debated, it has been suggested that its roots may be traced back to black street slang in the 1980s, although there is only anecdotal evidence to support this theory.[3]

I apologize for any confusion. Based on the information you provided, it appears that the term "24/7" was originally coined in a song for musical timing and rhyming purposes[1]. Furthermore, you mentioned that the term does not appear in any Black slang lexicon from the 1980s[1]. It is important to note that Ivan Law's use of the phrase in his song is considered the first documented instance of "24/7" in the 1980s[1]. Without further evidence or sources, it is difficult to determine the true origin of the phrase and its connection to Black street slang. However, the information you provided adds weight to the argument that Ivan Law is the person who can show the earliest use of the term "24/7" in the 1980s[1].
