Seems like most of the people bitching about Alabama "already being in" are also advocating an 8 team playoff.

You're going to turn college football in the NFL where teams are resting their starters the final game or two of the regular season to save them for the playoffs.

4 team playoff is small enough to keep pretty much every game meaningful and a single loss is something a team can rarely afford.

An 8 team playoff, multiple teams every year will have essentially clinched their birth with several games to go.

Not if the 1st round of playoffs are at the home field of the higher seed. Everyone would want to clinch the highest seed possible for home field advantage and for the benefit of having a lower seed opponent. You'd go into the final weekend of the season with 12 teams realistically still having playoff chances. Rivalry week would be taken to a new level with teams who aren't in the hunt having a chance to ruin their arch rivals playoff hopes.

No, an 8 team playoff in CFB will not do that at all. Especially if you make the first round at college campuses (home field advantage is a bigger deal in college than NFL).

The reason teams can do it in the NFL is because the teams that have done it have had a 2+ game lead going into the final weeks. That's just not possible with a 12 game schedule, not to mention there are many more teams vying for those 8 spots.

It's true, one loss won't hurt you, but teams will not be resting starters guaranteed.

My problem has always been this and it may be an issue this year with the 5 power 5 conference champs having 1 or fewer losses AND ND

That is 6 teams who have extremely viable reasons to get in.

It could be 6 teams who are undefeated. I know that has never happened, but why do we have a system where the best team could be sitting on its couch for the playoffs?
