Spread offense will not work in the SEC. offenses that work in spread concepts can. Everyone is running some version of zone read and rpo with 3 and 4 split receivers.

Because they can't run the ball. They only have 150+ yds rushing in 3 games this year.

So do they have a RB talent issue or OL problems?

Have you ever heard of Tim Tebow?

Yes, the spread system can work. It worked very well in the SEC, and it is working very well in the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Florida are all running the spread right now, while LSU and Tennessee are running more traditional offenses and falling behind by the year as a result.

and would your defense suffer from your offense scoring too many points?

Spread =/= up-tempo or no-huddle spread.

There is a difference between Urban Meyer and Chip Kelly and the ways they use the spread offense.

If the no-huddle spread is ineffective, it can cripple your defense, IMO.

Spread offenses don’t work. Look at Auburn.

Auburn beat UGA and Bama last year.
they also won the NC with Cam Newton and made it to the NC game with Nick Marshall.

he spread works, what doesnt work in the SEC or at least not to the same extent as other conferences is the air raid style spread that Missouri runs.

i mean, they did make back to back trips to Atlanta when they first came in... Missouri isnt exactly a "hotbed" for recruiting... think they are doing just fine in the east..

It does raise a question though. With Stidham back (who was considered a very good QB last year) and Malzahn still overseeing the offense, why is Auburn's O struggling this year?

If scheme trumped talent then Auburn wouldn't have dropped so much, but they lost some good OL and their stud TB.

Sound familiar?

It’s safe to say that our defense suffers about as much as a defense can suffer with the offense we run now.

Is this 2005?

Spread offenses have been working in the SEC for over 10 years now
Florida - 2 NC
Auburn - 1 NC and 1 runner up
Bama - 2 NC running a spread and 1 runner up - if no injury to Tua will probably win another
Ole Miss and Miss ST - had best seasons in their modern football history running spread systems
Texas A&M - had a heisman winner running a spread

People can argue whether it’s spread or not and the definition of spread offense, but I suggest pulling up every loss Saban has had since his time at LSU and make a note of what almost all have in common. To run or offense is to not even try!
