Sound Bar Question/Topic

We have an LG 2.1 soundbar with wireless subwoofer...it sounds great...until certain actors seem to mumble with deep voices...and then we are left saying, "What'd he say?" and rewinding the show.
Does anyone know a better way to get better audio out of a soundbar? We've tried every setting on the soundbar and the settings don't change much of anything.
TIA.

usually there is a 'late night' mode or 'audio enhancement' mode on soundbars. that is a 'feature' of the audio being mixed into louder sfx and music that sounds great if you have it cranked up but not so much when you're listening to it low.
i almost always have subtitles on these days; i feel like i've spent my whole life missing about 50% of the dialog in movies because with it off i miss some real dialog zingers.

One of the problems with 2.1 soundbar systems is that there's no dedicated center channel speaker. The center channel is responsible for vocals, without one it sometimes becomes hard to make out dialogue.

You're right about that. I finally got a full sound bar system and the center audio has made this much better for me.

Excellent information. I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to sound systems such as these...so is there a naming convention that specifies a center speaker?
Such as a 3.1, 5.1 or something? I did not know the center speaker is tuned to the vocal frequencies...as I've said before...excellent info.

I have been looking for a sound bar for a Christmas present for my wife since she hates the Bose 321 we have. Sonos is pushed nonstop on the tech board but its too expensive so i've landed on the Yamaha YAS-207. Supposedly, the DTS-X surround sound rivals Dolby Atmos and for the price, gets consistently good reviews. Hopefully, its as good as its made out to be.
