Blockchain technology the future of voting?

Seems like a smart person would use this technology for our nation’s most sacred process.
How the frick is a ballot in Florida 6 pages long? We need to get rid of this antiquated system.
With my limited knowledge of blockchain I cant see why each “transaction” couldn’t be a vote. Once a vote is added to the chain it can’t be altered. Votes are added instantly on election night. Machines only accept valid IDs... sorry, that’s not voter suppression it is security.
Anyway, just seems like there should be a better way to do this

I've thought that this has possibilities.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I like that you sound reasonable and are looking for a technological way to make voting less prone to fraud.
Up vote.
Up vote.

oh you mean like chain to a block? Like all you white devils did to slaves? SO I'm a slave? You're a filthy racist, and probably a bigot and homophobe too.
Typical white patriarchy with your racial overtones and deliberate gas lighting, trying to suppress votes, you discriminatory a-hole. How dare you disrespect my identity with such a term!!
I'm so angered by your suggestion, I'm going to commit some act of violence against a person or inanimate object, and will be celebrated for it!!

And since the purpose is decentralization, and an uncorrectable record, I don’t see how the government would ever agree to it, and that would be unjustified on their part even those not corrupt.

Why you tryna suppress the minority vote with these fancy big words? Racist.
It does have merit however going forward. Literally any idea at this point should be given consideration as the current method opens up to fraud

No. If you think we have problems now, implement something like blockchain and grab some popcorn.

No.
Blockchain has a very niche use case. Any blockchain that is not completely decentralized is basically a database. There is no way to completely decentralize a nation's voting. It will always roll up to some centralized authority, as it should.
Blockchain is a buzzword that gets VC funding. 99% of these ideas are terrible.

I agree with you. Actually, there's been working groups (professors at MIT, etc.) working on this issue for years and publishing papers with proposed systems. The problem is how do you implement it and who do you trust? There has to be some sort of trust in any crypto system. It's not the math that gets hacked, but the implementation.
Some anonymous guy created Bitcoin. It's a brilliant system and he is certainly a very talented guy, but he's still anonymous and there's no way to truly verify that he hasn't stuck in some backdoor code that "pwns" the system when he wants.
And, finally, our lawmakers would have to approve it and all of them are lawyers. They would have no clue what is a good system and what isn't. If you want to see the problem with that, just read this paper written by a PhD candidate at Stanford. You going to tell me that an average lawmaker (or citizen) will understand how it works?

Blockchain technology is what crypto currencies like bitcoin use.
I’ll attempt to explain it the best I can. Imagine a train of a certain length of cars. Each car represents a vote. If a voting machine wants to add a new vote or “car” to the end of the train it has to verify all the previous votes or “cars” down the length of the train. This ensures that the history of transactions or votes can’t be altered.
The various voting machines would be doing this instantaneously around the country. And the entire time it is essentially creating a ledger or record of all the votes across the country.
Crypto currency is designed to handle millions of transactions per second (if not more) so it’s more than capable of handling all the votes in the country.

If tied back to devices with face or fingerprint recognition, it is arguably more secure than mail in ballots.

I don’t know what block chain is but there has to be a technology fix to this mess The only reason to leave this antiquated system in place is to manipulate elections.

It’s my understanding that the blockchain can be examined and all transactions or votes can be known. I think that is much more reliable than pieces of paper that have an unknown creation date.
But I get your point. That’s also why I suggested the machine accept a valid ID. Just like a credit card. The machine can also simultaneously produce a paper copy of the vote for a backup record.

Using logic and dealing with Democrats is impossible, like your idea though.
Posted on 11/10/18 at 9:31 am to TrueTiger
No, it isn't. Your system is built by people, and that's always going to have flaws and vulnerabilities.
Instead of a few incompetent/corrupt individuals in Broward County, you've opened your process up to billions of different attack vectors.

I’ll admit I’m not an expert on this, but you sound like you don’t even understand the basics of this technology.

isn’t that exactly the problem right now? Broward country seems pretty detached from reality and functioning by their own rules.

Any system can be hacked. Blockchain is by far the most "trustless" and transparent electronic process available.
Posted on 11/10/18 at 9:39 am to DisplacedBuckeye
Any system eventually is distilled down to flawed humans.
The least flawed is still the tried and true.
Show up on election day at your designated precinct with a valid voter registration and ID, no absentees, no mail ins, no exceptions.
Still not perfect, but show me something that is more secure than that.

Most articles I’m reading that discuss this possibility say “the experts disagree”.
Where the frick are these experts and what do they have to say about what’s happening in Broward county?
It’s not like I’m suggesting we change a system that is functioning well.
In addition all of the negative articles discuss blockchain and it’s use in online and smartphone voting. Yeaaaaaa that’s retarded. I’m suggesting you will go to the polls in person. We would just have an electronic backup of votes in addition to the paper ballot.
