Cost of illegal immigration

I’ve heard on multiple occasions that the benefits that illegal immigrants are associated with outweigh the costs. But this is simply not true.
The staggering total costs of illegal immigrants and their children outweigh the taxes paid to federal and state governments by a ratio of roughly 7 to 1, with costs at nearly $135 billion compared to tax revenues at nearly $19 billion.
The nearly $135 billion paid out by federal and state and local taxpayers to cover the cost of the presence of 12.5 million illegal aliens and their 4.2 million citizen children amounts to approximately $8,075 per illegal alien and citizen child prior to taxes paid, or $6,940 per person after taxes are paid.
On the federal level, medical ($17.14 billion) is by far the highest cost, with law enforcement coming second ($13.15 billion) and general government services ($8 billion) third.
At the state and local level, education ($44.4 billion) was by far the largest expense, followed by general public services ($18.5 billion) and medical ($12.1 billion).
The top three states based on total cost to state taxpayers for illegal immigrants and their children: California ($23 billion); Texas ($10.9 billion), and New York ($7.5 billion).

Currently it's infinite.....what we need is finite.....build the wall.

As PBS put it, "costs for an uneducated migrant are similar to the costs of an uneducated American." As if because one is bad then adding to it makes it OK. How about we limit the amount of drainers on this country to the minimum?

I would like to know from liberals, since we’re taking in these illegals should we continue giving aid to all of these countries? It obviously isn’t doing any good.

We already have over half the population of the United States on government assistance. Why would we want to add to that?

Do you have a link for this data? I want to use it in future debates.

BS. Americans don’t have to be detained and go through the immigration courts with lawyers, judges, etc.
There’s a metric shite-ton of money in detention and legal costs to process illegals. WE pay for that, and I bet you could build a new wall every 10 years with that money.
Then add medical, drugs, crimes, etc. lots of downstream costs that could go away.

Immigrants are coming here to earn money to provide a better life for their families. They are finding work and earning money, and the labor is their contribution.

So you’re in favor of illegal immigration?

No, I just recognize the reality of the situation.
Would be nice if the same opportunities existed in Central America or in Mexico.
But it would also be naive to think these people are just a drain. Because you see them all over town either working or looking for work.

How does this compare to the average american citizen? With the amount of debt we are accumulating in this country, certainly most citizens do not contribute an amount equivalent to what they receive either.
The problem is the government middle man, not the citizen status of the taxpayers.

Is contribution to GDP figured in or simply net tax revenue?

Since you asked, from the bush center..
benefits of immigration
quote:
Immigration fuels the economy. When immigrants enter the labor force, they increase the productive capacity of the economy and raise GDP. Their incomes rise, but so do those of natives. It’s a phenomenon dubbed the “immigration surplus,” and while a small share of additional GDP accrues to natives — typically 0.2 to 0.4 percent — it still amounts to $36 to $72 billion per year.
In addition to the immigration surplus, immigrants grease the wheels of the labor market by flowing into industries and areas where there is a relative need for workers — where bottlenecks or shortages might otherwise damp growth.

You do realize that even the ones working off the books there is still a significant drain of resources. What is the first law of economics? Do you consider money to be infinitely available or something that has a finite amount?

Oh it’s much more than that nowadays.

Why did you purposely inject a statement about "immigrants" when the OP was referring to "illegal immigration".
Why does the Left always combine these two completely different entities?

How much does incarceration cost? How many of these people commit crimes and bring in drugs?
