Opening
#23 LSU returns tonight against a very experienced and a very good mid major team in UNCG. Both teams are coming off impressive wins in there own right. LSU beat up on Southeastern at home 94-63 but it was a lot worse than the score indicated. UNCG actually went on the "road" to face NC A&T however NC A&T's home is also Greensboro, NC but they got the win 74-66. The reason both wins are impressive is SLU could very well be the Southland's rep in the NCAA tourney and are very well coached. The same can be said for NC A&T they could very well be the MEAC"s rep in the big dance as well.

Little bit about the Opponent
This is a very very dangerous UNCG team. Most LSU fans probably have never heard of the school and if they have you probably do not know it is a very good program respective to the Southern Conference. Wes Miller the coach at UNCG will remind you a lot of Will Wade (They are also good friends). Both are 35 and Miller is seen as a rising star. This is his 8th year at the helm and he has already taken his squad to the NCAA Tourney and are coming off a 27 win campaign. Miller was a walk-on for Roy Williams 2005 national title team at UNC and actually played a lot. They will run mostly man with some zone sprinkled in but should not be much if any. They will look to run selectively and have capable shooters and offensive rebounders that can easily compete at an SEC level. Wade and Miller are very familiar as CWW started his HC career at Chattanooga and they were in the same conference.

LSU Starters and Rotation
PG Waters 5'11
G Mays 6'4
G Smart 6'4
F Reid 6'10
C Bigby Williams 6'11

F E. Williams 6'7
G Edwards 6'3
Wing Taylor 6'5
F Days 6'8

UNCG
PG Troy 6'0
G Alonso 6'3
G Massey 6'3
F Galloway 6'8
C Dickey 6'10

G Miller 6'0
F Hamilton 6'9
Wing Hunter 6'4

I did not put the stats as each team has only played one game so just going off what I know of each. LSU is without question the better, bigger, and more athletic team. UNCG is the more experienced and battle tested of the two. He is in his 8th year, the system is in place for UNCG. UNCG is going to be crisper and sharper in their half court sets but if LSU can get out in transition they can wreak havoc. The player to watch for UNCG is #10 Francis Alonso. He is a pure scorer in every sense. Not very big but a dead-eye three point shooter and very crafty and smart, he had 23 in their opener. Their first guy off the bench was #1 Miller a smaller guard but has major bounce who had 16 in the first game. To me what makes them go is their C, Dickey he had 7 blocks and will be an all-conference player for them and truly is their defensive anchor. They really only go 8 deep and have one true reserve post so if LSU can get Dickey in foul trouble, Naz Reid or Emmitt Williams could be in for big nights. Marlon Taylor really impressed me against SLU and has a big matchup advantage as UNCG really does not go above 6-3 at guard even in their deep reserves. All 5 newcomers impressed but want to see Edwards, Mays, and especially Waters take back a little more control in a game where pace of play will be key.

Prediction

Most have either heard or saw LSU on opening night. This is the most athletic team easily since Brady's Final Four team. I expect LSU to use their length and press even more than they did against SLU and to run more to get UNCG out in transition and put them in decisions on fouling or just allowing the score. LSU for the first time in a long time can beat a team in so many ways it is very refreshing. Tremont was kind of overshadowed by the newcomers in the first game I look for him to have his sophomore coming out party tonight. If LSU can get UNCG bigs in foul trouble early which I think they will I think they can control this one from the start. UNCG is a very good team in that if they get down by 10 or more they will not fold they will keep fighting. LSU shot poorly from 3 against SLU and still put up 94 points so I look for LSU to bounce back on that front tonight as well.

LSU 39
UNCG 27 at the Half

LSU 79
UNCG 65

LSU is favored by 10.5 for you guys that care to know.
We also had our best home crowd in years with over 10,100 against SLU. I expect more tonight on a Friday and LSU away football game. If you are looking for a fun event that is cheap you cannot beat tonight and it is not a pushover team. They will be a postseason team in UNCG.

This LSU team really looks the part. It remains to be seen how it will match up against similar teams, but with Wade at the helm, these big, athletic guys are going to roll through the fall and into the winter.

We have a bench. Its nice to see that when our starters come out we have talent to send in. Im excited to see what happens here. John brady is really high on this team and thinks they are more talented than his final four sqaud.

I recommend parking next to West Campus Apartments for those that do not know or remember where that is its across from a big apartment complex what used to be called Standard and is now UHouse.

Usually have multiple cops so no fear of walking or leaving your car, its free as well. The walk to the back of the PMAC on the side of the practice facilities for basketball and gymnastics is not uphill or downhill so it is very easy and tops takes 2 minutes.

Also very easy to leave as you can just hop on Nicholson or River Road.

Other places along Nicholson are free as well next to the stadium itself is free and since its an away game should be very very easy and convenient. Also if you are going back towards central BR anywhere on campus like near the Cox Center for student athletes or the lots across from the Indian Mounds would work as a student have had no problems doing that. Hope that helps

Thanks burdman

The lots I personally would recommend are the ones adjacent to Alaska street, quick easy walk and its not uphill and easy exit after the game. Or 202 if you live in BR just hop on Dalrymple after the game. But it really is very easy to get in and out of the PMAC in my experience relative to TS or The Box

Bigby starts tonight? Did Williams start game one? Not that it really matters. Just curious

Williams got the start against SELA, but Bigby-Williams actually played more minutes (21 vs. 16)

UNC-G is a much taller team than SELA so we might see Bigby-Williams start tonight. They have a 6'10 and 6'8 front court.

Wouldn't surprise me if we eventually work Marlon Taylor into the starting lineup because of the length and athleticism he provides. He was originally slated to start but has the pinky injury on shooting hand he is recovering from still.

This game is a perfect example of fans thinking our schedule sucks, but we are playing very quality opponents. UNCG will test us and be absolutely ready to play

tbird is right I put Bigby-Williams in there because he has D-1 experience before and I think UNCG is not a team you want to play around with early. Also their 6'10 as bird alluded to plays a very similar style to Bigby so I think its a solid matchup.

E.Williams did start game one, but it would not surprise me to see either one start or finish.

This should be a decent test. Similar to playing UNCW early last season.

ESPN3/watchespn will have it since it's SECN+. Dont confuse with ESPN+ which you have to pay for. Anything SECN+ shows up for free on ESPN3/watchespn - assuming you pay for ESPN through cable/satellite/streaming provider.

100%

Wade talked about this a lot and you could see it even at VCU. You have to schedule these mid majors but if you have to why not do it against the teams you know will put up big win totals, which SLU and UNCG will both do. Huge fault of Jones was scheduling his friends and specifically multiple MEAC or SWAC games in a year those absolutely can kill your RPI. UNCG will be worth a good +2 to +4 which is really good. St. Mary's is another prime example they will rack up a lot of wins while also providing a good matchup as good if not better than your low end Power 5 cellar dwellers.

CWW did it last year with Samford and this year with UNCG. Next year we will be in the Big 12/SEC challenge again. Probably if not there a Texas/LSU home and home with Shaka Smart.
