Is it still safe to go to border towns? I've been to Tijuana, Matamoros, and Acuna but was under the impression that the days of being able to safely go over to the boys towns were over.

No it is not safe to be an American in most of Mexico outside of the well known resort location any more. Kidnapping Americans is only slightly behind drug dealer in terms of most popular job for Mexican men.

I remember one drunken trip to TJ, we were in this hole in the wall place drunk off our asses and they had women stripping and one of them was in an open shower in the middle of the place , for $5 American she would let a guy climb the ladder and piss on her. Well, I was hammered and my buddies convinced me it would be hilarious to do, so I climbed that ladder and just pissed all over this girl. Then fell off the ladder and landed on top of her , breaking her arm.

That shite almost started a new Mexican AMerican war right in that bar

If that happened today some cartel would probably just kill the Americans right on the spot.

Mexico City and Monterrey are fine. The closer you get to the border (US and Central America), the worse it gets.
