MLS Playoffs

The MLS regular season wrapped up with Decision Day on Sunday, and the playoffs start with two matches tonight and two more tomorrow night. It's win or go home in this opening round, hosted by the higher seed. Games are on Unimas and the ESPN+ app.
Tonight's Games
6 pm CT - #6 Philadelphia Union @ #3 New York City
8:30 pm CT - #5 Portland Timbers @ #4 FC Dallas
The Union play at Yankee Stadium for the second time in four days. They are terrible on the road, and NYCFC is healthy again, so I don't think an upset is likely. In the other game, however, I think Portland will upset Dallas on the road. Dallas has finished the season very poorly, and can't buy a goal right now.
Tomorrow's Games
7 pm CT - #5 Columbus Crew @ #4 DC United
9:30 pm CT - #6 Real Salt Lake @ #3 Los Angeles FC
The Crew's biggest win happened off the field this year, as it appears their future is safe with new ownership being finalized. They'll face a tough task beating Wayne Rooney and red-hot DC United at Audi Field. RSL is just happy to be in the playoffs after the Galaxy's implosion against Houston. LAFC likely won't have much trouble with them.
Unless a #6 seed pulls an upset in the knockout round, the winner of the 4 vs. 5 game will play the top seed in the conference semifinals, while the winner of the 3 vs. 6 game would play the #2 seed. It works like the NFL playoffs if re-seeding is needed.
Top 2 Seeds in the East
#1 - New York Red Bulls
#2 - Atlanta United
Top 2 Seeds in the West
#1 - Sporting Kansas City
#2 - Seattle Sounders
I don't think we'll see many upsets in the West this year, but the East could be very exciting. As good as the Red Bulls have been, DC United is a scary #4 seed that can beat anyone in the league the way they are playing.

We have been dreadful towards the end of the season (FC Dallas), like you said. I believe both of the matches with portland before ended in draws. Hopefully we can squeak by though.

It's still frustrating that a major sports opening playoff games are not viewable for the casual fan.

absolutely amazing how Rooney has changed DC United.
Was never a fan of his in England, but i have grown to respect him, and the leadership he brought to DC.
Like to see them go on a run in playoffs.

NYCFC should be docked points every year until they can get a full sized field.

Having one of these bad boys. So good.

Both these teams are terrible even by MLS standards

NYC only finished 3rd because no one can figure out how to play on that small field. They are shite away from home.

DC would have easy finished up there if we had Rooney and Audi field all season
Probably could have been in the mix for a top two seed

I know attendance is bad tonight b/c it's been raining all day here in DFW but... the FCD brass deserves this shite fan showing b/c of their CONSTANT bullshite of selling/trading their best players midseason and then turning around and wondering why the hell the team fades.

It’s empty as frick
Not a good look for MLS two not even half full playoff matches
Tomorrow’s DC and LAFC matches will be packed

The rain was bad enough for most of the day that I've only had one trick or treater tonight. Usually I get a constant stream of kids from the time I get off work until around 10pm. If it hadn't rained all day I might have gone to this but I'm flying out to NYC tomorrow morning and don't want to sit in a wet stadium all night for a team that has had zero creativity and a boring arse offense since they moved Mauro Diaz to a fricking team from Dubai.
