Welp... that's probably the game winner. FCD attack has been awful as of late and I have zero confidence in them scoring 2 goals while holding Portland scoreless the rest of the way.

Badji celebrating as the ball hits the crossbar and missing a chance for a rebound is a perfect representation of what the second half of the year has been like.

He was about a yard offside on the review. Portland got a goal off a really nice free kick that came from a pretty weak foul call just outside the FCD box.

I agree that the first round and the final MLS Cup match both being singe game winner takes all while the semifinals and conference finals are home & away w/aggregate is stupid.

I just don't understand it at all. Giving NYCFC a clear on match advantage because of the pitch dimensions.

Oh well. Need to get rid of the "knockout" round all together honestly.

Whatevs. He's right. It should a single format the entire way. Not a weird mismash of a single game knock out and H&A aggregate.

I don't think many people dead set against changing the playoff format.

Too few, actually. Need to get to 36. Split into 2 conferences of 18 (East/West).

Lol and make the quality of the league worse

If anything go to 36 and create a first and second division

36 teams is entirely too big and isn’t sustainable esp when the league doesn’t generate big revenue and doesn’t have the in county talent to produce

With the way they do expansion you are never going to see the newer owners agree to that.

Dallas would be second tier for as long as the Hunts were involved. They'd be like one of those poor arse Euro teams that could move up by winning their division but choose not to.

That would be a long-term goal.

-Get to 36 (East/West, each conference has a champion each year, table format, no inter-conference play)
-Have a yearly tournament using the top 8(or all 18?) from each conference from the previous season (make that the MLS Cup). Run it concurrently like every other cup.
-Build up the USL pyramid. Get all 3 levels on stable ground.
-Once all that is done, then you can shift to something like a 20 team MLS 1, 20 team MLS 2, USL Premier League becomes the 3rd level, etc. Would be a total of 5 divisions.

I think more than just ~20 cities need to get that taste of 1st division soccer in order for us to really have a fully stable pyramid.
