Sorry for my ignorance but I just found out that Steve Shaw is an Alabama Grad. Wtf how can this not be a conflict of interest? How this allowed? AD’s from around the conference should demand a change, I just don’t understand how they have allowed this from the start!

Steve Shaw is the SEC Coordinator of Football Officiating. I doubt he is head of the REC.

The myth of the REC is extremely over exaggerated.

Imagine, if you were calling a game to determine who wins the conference and national championship and one of those teams playing was your boss’ former school. Do you think you might make be a little blind to some holding calls? Be quicker to flag the other school?

I think the larger point is that there is already in rule in place with the SEC that states that no member university alumni can call a game involving their own alma mater. Given that rule, it does make one wonder why it would be acceptable to allow the head of officials to be an alumnus of a member institution. If, after all, Shaw would be unable to even call a game on the field involving Alabama wouldn’t it stand to reason that he should not Be in a position of authority over officials that ARE working those games?

Again, Steve Shaw may have more integrity than any Human that has ever walked the face of the earth. It’s irrelevant. The appearance of impropriety is enough for this entire situation to have never been set up this way in the first place. Everyone understands this basic concepts… But for some reason, we are all told to pretend that they’re simply could not be any potential buyers taking place here at all. The entire thing is laughable.

1. SEC office moves out of Alabama, 2. Complete staff change - top to bottom or LSU should leave SEC - things will never change, only fools think otherwise

The bigger question is who is reviewing the plays in Birmingham? Those are the people that can clean up some of the bad calls on the field.

I don’t know for sure but I have heard on several occasions that two of the people are Steve Shaw and Tom Ritter.....both Alabama grads.

If that is true, then why isn’t that a conflict of interest?

The same way Shaw can be the head of the national officials. He just replaced Rogers Redding. He is a genius on rules, a great official and an even better human being dedicated to the safety of the players.

I thoughy I read Shaw appoints refs. No?

It’s absurd to allow any SEC alumni any influence with officiating.. in any capacity.

Just my opinion. Y’all have your own.

Good day everyone!

100%. You can't referee the games of any school you (and I think any of your immediate family) attended.
