You understand that the steel tariffs are on Americans that buy steel from almost every country right?? That China is like the 11th largest supplier to the US? It is even on Canada still.

Yeah, we all understand that. This is about using the protection of a tariff to restart an industry that is essential to the most important function of the U.S. government. That's exactly why tariffs are in place on more than just Chinese steel. The fact that there are inputs from China that remain un-tariffed is likely due to the regulatory burdens of producing the chemicals here. Instead we can allow the Chinese to poison their own population as we figure out a way to ramp up production of the chemicals without destroying our health and environment.

We all know you aren't ignorant, you're just a globalist and are too short sighted to account for future national security problems. China is a massive national security issue for a multitude of reasons. As far a steel, they've been playing the long game for quite some time now. Their percentage of world steel production in 2000 was 15%. When Xi Jinping took over in 2007 it was 36% and is now at roughly 50%+. Their intent is clear, they want to consolidate as much steel production in China as possible and control markets. As that consolidation grows steel in other countries is obviously bankrupted and driven out.

Since 2000, the only places on the globe where steel production has consistently grown are China and countries that are within what they consider their sphere of influence. Western countries' production has massively declined in proportion to global output since 2000.

On the books...sure. What about their steel ending up in other countries of off the books, being declared as being made in that country (as opposed to China), then shipped to the US. If Mexico and Canada are the "middleman" nation...then tariffs would have been avoided per NAFTA (an added bonus for your friends). In short, their is one end game...the end of US self reliance. Our country are happy little lambs fattened up on cheap Chinese products. At some point, after the US has lost the ability to compete, the economic slaughter will commence. See "rare Earth elements" as an example of this. Thanks but no thanks. I'll pass on having China own us.
