What is the board's opinion and experience with this? How does it work? Can you record shows? Does it have OnDemand? What about Sports channels?
I'm still on DirecTV and have some trepidation about cutting the cord, but am getting frustrated for paying so much per month and not utilizing a 1/3 of the channels.

I pay $60/month for the middle tier of channels, HBO, and three streams. It comes with a 20 hour DVR that has generally been enough for me.
It's been awesome on my apple tvs. Can't vouch for any other device.

I have had since launch. I have the Go Big plus HBO for $40. Meets my needs.

I have the cheapest plan. It works almost perfect on my Apple TV. They recently added CBS and Fox local channels. Overall I’m very happy and I will most likely never get real cable again.

I have had Directv Now a few months. So far, so good. I have no plans to go back to Directv.
Download the Directv app to your streaming device. I use the Amazon FireTv. It is also supported on others (Ruko, etc). Signup via the web site. They offer a free trial.
Yes, Directv Now does have on demand movies and shows.
It is not as good as Directv. Directv has a better user interface and more features. But, my bill went from $130 per month to $55 so it is good enough for me.
There is a cloud DVR (20 hours default). Works fine. There are some shows that you can't record the series. Individual show yes, but not the series. Licensing issue perhaps. Most shows I can record the series.
You will have to get use to the interface, coming from Directv. No channel numbers on the guide. Channels are in alphabetical order. You can create a favorites list. They also have a some basic filters for things like sports.
I get all the sports channels (ESPN, FS1, CBS Sports, SEC Network) I need with my package. During week 1 of the college football season I noticed some annoying buffering but that has stopped.
You can't rewind live TV like with the Directv's Genie. So if there is a Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction then you will not be able to rewind to see the nip slip. You can solve this by recording the show even if you watch it live.
Pausing live TV isn't that great either. It starts forwarding the show, even when paused, if you keep it paused too long. So no long trips to the toilet while your show is paused. Again, record it if you need to pause it for a more than a few minutes.
The last couple of week, the app has rebooted itself about a 1/2 dozen times. This sucks when you are in the middle of watching a football game. Now this is a new development and I hope they fix it with the next update.
It takes a few extra clicks (compared to a Directv remote) to get to where you are wanting to go (pulling up the guide for example). I'm using the Amazon FireTv.
When I switch channels, the stream begins with standard definition then switches to HD a few seconds later. Kind of annoying.
Recording live events (e.g. sports). The cloud DVR does not offer an extension like Directv does. If you believe the game could go past the time listed on the guide then you better record the next show as well.
Sorry for the long response.

Pretty good wrap up of some of the limitations with it. I've also been on DirecTVNow for a couple of months. My biggest gripe is the DVR functionality. For example, recorded shows don't show up in your DVR library until after the airing is complete. So say you want to watch something that starts at 7, but won't be available to watch until 7:15, you can't go to your library and start it from the beginning. Some shows you have the option of going to the guide and starting it from the beginning, but I've yet to get it to work correctly. I've only tried it a couple of times. And pausing live TV is kind of a trainwreck. It actually just stops it mostly for me, and skips to the live broadcast when I start it back.
Overall, I'm pleased with it but plan on trying YouTubeTV once this current month is complete. It comes with 3 simultaneous streams, while Direct just has 2. You can add a third one for $5 more per month. And the channel lineups are pretty much the same.

I've had it since launch and got the Apple TV as part of the promo. one of the most recent updates seemed to have changed how it works with the Apple TV remote. I seem to remember being able to swipe more before, now I have to hit Menu first. unnecessary step IMO.
that said, the ATV is the smoothest of the devices I use it on, as far as playback. I mostly watch on an older Roku 3, and it works fine there too but can be a bit choppy at times.

Agreed, tried it on a few other devices. Remote sucks hard though. Hate the remote.

nchawg summed up it up pretty well i think...
I have tried PS Vue, Sling, Direct TV Now, Hulu Live TV and HDHomerun Premium TV. Out of all of those HULU seems to have won with lack of bugs, depth of content, local channel availability in my area, DVR funcionality and picture quality.

Directv Now would buffer constantly on my Roku Ultra when I had it back in January and February. It would almost impossible to watch and I have gigablast internet through cox so speeds were not the issue. I have been using Hulu Live since then and have no complaints and actually I was able to get a few local channels that I did not get with DTN. I have heard that DTN work better on apple tv and other streaming devices than ROKU.

theyve worked through the kinks and its now a very good product.

DTN works fine on my Roku stick and my TCL Roku TV. I have an older Apple TV that doesn't offer the DTN app, so no idea there.

Yes, just brush down from the top right and pull up the remote
