So is Nikki Fargas hard to work for?!?

Joe Alleva everybody! Will do the least work possible and hand off as much of his responsibilities as he can while gouging the holy hell out of the very people he's doing his job for!

Not to mention the lifetime volleyball coach finally won a sec match.

That is pretty horrific and telling when the best assistant/ coach on staff, a HOF coach steps down to “enjoy time with family” only to take a Assistant coaching job at another SEC school less than 5 months later. Demoss jumped ship

Yes Nikki is hard to work with, I’ve seen it up close many times. Her ego is the biggest problem and a lot of it rubs off badly in recruiting.

I do not respect Joe Alleva. This man is very compensated for his time at LSU and he cannot make adequate hires except for will wade and the softball coach ?

I will not be attending any Women’s basketball games. I don’t want to be critical of Mr. Alleva. I just hope that he will resign within the next couple of years.

I suppose you can look at it this way:

1. No one will out recruit UConn or Baylor or Notre Dame.

2. LSU probably should be focusing on more revenue generating hires.

3. No one is beating UConnBaylor/ South Carolina/ Notre Dame / Mississippi State/ Tennessee.

Ehh.... they recruit at another level but they have phenomenal coaching to go along with it.

Listen LSU can be back as a major program, it has the resources and everything in place to bring it back. Pokey recruited top tier talent nationally. Pokey was able to grab a lot of top recruits out the Florida and Texas areas, while being able to secure the top prospects in our own back yard. Augustus is a animal of its owned that we were blessed to come out BR.

LSU would be a completely different program if it was able to secure its top in state talent and recruit Texas and the south decently. There is plenty of talent around but LSU seems to always get not picked at the end of the recruiting process.

The reality is there is ZERO reason why LSU shouldn't have a top 15-20 program.

UCLA fan here and just wanted to add my 0.02.

I think there are a lot of issues to be discussed but at this time, the main thing is Fargas' contract. I don't think your AD could have let her go after last season. I looked at the record and she had some bad losses but also some surprising wins. Victories over #10 (Tennessee), #14 (TAMU), #16 (Missouri) and #17 (Georgia) can't be overlooked. I think it points to Fargas' acumen as a coach. She knows her stuff and can be a brilliant tactician. But she does her best work with players that she inherited from other coach's recruiting efforts and her record proves that.

2018 had no recruits but 2019 has a good start in point Domonique Davis. LA's highly ranked Tiara Young has LSU on her short list, which is great news when you remember how many local players were not even considered. If she whiffs on Young and if the very lackluster lineup fails this season, the AD has the perfect reason to fire her. It's also been suggested that the reason for the contract extension was so Fargas would have a nice, though not overly pricey buyout. $200K severance might be what your AD feels 8 years of service is worth.

So to answer the question, I think Fargas is hard to work for because she's simply difficult. She's a Diva (capital D) and there's only room for one Diva on the team. Think about that for a second because I really think it explains her recruiting mentality. Her game plans are clear but she doesn't have the manpower to execute correctly. And that likely will never change because she won't change. There is a specific order to whom she deems worthy. She seems to go through assistants regularly and although DeMoss was a radical upgrade, in the end, Fargas is the one who makes the final decisions. In Los Angeles, she was mistrusted because club coaches felt she would run out on UCLA for a better offer (which turned out to be true) and many simply didn't like her at all. At UCLA, she put off many of the other coaches, some of whom had National Championships. Her air was, "I'm from Tennessee" when a little humbleness would have helped.

But here's the irony. Both she and Holly Warlick are disciples of Pat Summitt. I think Fargas has the knowledge but Warlick has the personality. If you could somehow merge the two, you'd have a winner.

I believe this season will determine what happens with Coach Nikki Fargas and LSU.
