So a buddy from college killed himself last week. Wasnt one of my close baws and hadnt talked to him since college but still kinda shocks you.

I bet some people on here know him as well.

Family is having a big wake, full mass, etc.

I guess we all grieve differently but if it was my family member I would want a small family only service.

That pretty much sums it up. I don't want a funeral. I don't find them helpful in the least. My grandfather didn't have one and it was such a huge relief for me.

...but it’s not your family.

The wake is to celebrate his life. Some people have a great life and do a lot of great things then come onto a really hard time and take their life.

I'm not sure one bad day sure take away celebrating the rest of their life?

Have a friend who's dad killed himself about a month ago.

They had open casket and his daughter did not want that.

I still think its odd that a majority of the town went when they had nothing to do with the guy besides knowing that he worked for the school district.

He leaves behind a wife who spent 40 years with him, 3 kids, and 4 grandchildren.

Its not sad, its very tragic for them and selfish as frick.

That's sad baw. I had a fraternity brother do the same thing a few years ago. They had a small wake and funeral service from what the family told me. Small still being 100 people at the church. It was different to see the priest spin his life in a positive way being that Catholics think he is in Hell. Sad deal all around. Sorry for your loss. It's hard out there these days but I just can't understand how a baw decides enough is the ultimate enough.

This reach out to your friend this and that on FB is cool but I guess people werent raised to cope with life. Mental illness aside, they are weak individuals. I will piss off some baws with this but life is hard. Ending it is selfish but ultimately your life is your life and it's your decision.

I’m with you. I realize that nobody likes funerals, but I honestly feel like I get nothing out of them. My aunt died a few weeks ago, and it was just awkward. It’s nearly impossible to speak to the spouse/children. And my family is huge so it’s just people sitting a talking (laughing even) about completely unrelated shite. Almost feels inappropriate.

If your friend suffered depression or other issues, I would certainly celebrate his life all the same. The family is dealing with this as best as they can, you can only assume. You never know what circumstances can befall your life, cherish your friends and remember them well.

that's the only positive thing I see about funerals, they've replaced family reunions in my family

Yeah, this is what you should be concerned about right now.

That, and the worst part of the whole ordeal is how poorly some people deal with their emotions. Death is hard enough to handle on your own but some people can't help but meltdown. That's what makes it difficult for me.

Was a pall bearer at my great aunts funeral. My older cousin was as well. As we were in the limo driving to the cemetery, my cousin pulls out his phone and proceeds to show his newest gfs tits to everyone in the limo. I was like wtf? They were nice tits tho.

I know plenty thanks. Have had many friends taken by it. Had many junior Marines taken by it. Have been there myself. I still stand that it is selfish as frick.

You can't just put mental illness aside.

It just feels weird to me. The room with the food, where everyone’s eating like they’re at a holiday party. Don’t get me wrong.. I’d be even more uncomfortable if everyone was mourning around me. But the whole deal just weirds me out.
