You've never dealt with orthodox Jews, have you?
Loopholes allow Orthodox Manhattan Jews to do forbidden things outside on the Sabbath.
They often take religious writings absolutely literally, so if a loophole is available, it's perfectly fine to take it because you follow the letter of the law.
