New Yorker heading to first Tigers game this weekend- looking for tailgate recs

A group of 9 of us are headed down to Baton Rouge for our 40th birthday trip. We got tickets to the game this week, and are pumped the game was flexed to 8 pm (after hearing night games at LSU are best atmosphere in college football). We are actually staying in New Orleans and getting a shuttle bus to Baton Rouge for the game to drop us off and pick us up. We wanted to get there earlier and get the full tailgating experience. Wanted to post here to see if people had any tips, advice or recommendations on where to go/what to see for pre-game tailgating. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

People in here with bitch about everything possible, but you guys will have an amazing time.
Get there early. Bring an ice chest of beer and walk around telling people your story and plenty people will offer you all the food you could want.
Check out Mike's cage. Check out the players and band coming down victory hill (those times will be posted here before Saturday). Otherwise walk around and enjoy the day.

If you're a praying man it wouldn't hurt to start praying for some relief from the heat.

once people find out you're from NY, and it's your first time to Tiger Stadium, you'll be fed and given so many drinks I'll be surprised if you can see straight come kick off time. Enjoy...wear something with NY, hat..or your favorite team.
Bump this thread and give us a review next week.

This is the best advice. LSU tailgaters are very gracious but if they find out you are from out of state on a bucket list trip, they will absolutely pull out all the stops to make sure you have a great time.
The entire campus is a tailgate so just wander around. If you are looking for specifics, hang out around the Indian Mounds (just asking anyone where they are located and you'll find them). Great tailgates and a great place to see the band march into the stadium.
Have a great time and come back to tell us about your experience. Always great to hear an outsider's perspective

Since it will be a long day, I recommend posting up at the Chimes or Walk On's near campus to eat and drink and watch games until around 2 or 3. Great pre-game atmospheres. You can then walk to campus and start bouncing between tailgates. You'll want to be around the Indian Mounds (as suggested previously) by 6.

As others have said, bring a cheap ice chest (something you can carry or drag around).
Walk around as much as you can, visit Mikes cage. Lot's of big tailgates just north of the law school, Indian Mounds, Ag center, etc...
If you make a loop with Highland, Dalrymple, South Stadium you'll be set.
Also don't forget that the RV lots south of Patrick F Taylor Hall have a some huge parties.

Yeah, that's convenient.

Advice:
1. I'd get to campus as early as possible. For an 8:00pm game, I'd suggest as early as 11am to noon. This will allow you to wander around campus, see a few tailgates, Mike the Tiger, the band marching down the hill, and get inside the stadium early enough to experience all the pregame festivities. As others have mentioned, grabbing lunch (and some A/C) at either Walk On's or Chimes is also a good option.
2. Wear an outfit to denote you're from out of town (just not Ole Miss apparel). Whether it's a college or pro team, LSU fans love when football fans from around the country travel just to experience an LSU game day.
3. It's a veteran move to BYOB. LSU fans will certainly feed you if you're polite, introduce yourself and strike up a conversation, but generosity only extends so far. Don't be a mooch and bring your own booze.
