went to the ER saturday night for severe stomach cramping, and nausea and vomiting. turns our i had appendicitis and had to have emergency surgery yesterday morning. curious to here your experiences on recovery, back to work times, working out, normal activities. obviously pretty sore this morning and hate taking pain meds. but you gotta do what you gotta do.

You'll be back to normal in a few days.

That first time walking after surgery. FML painful. They told me I was an hour away from mine bursting and being in hospital for a week. Remember driving myself to hospital with windows down saying “don’t pass out” until I parked in emergency roundabout and gave admissions desk my keys

I drove myself to the ER too. They said it looked like it had been 3-4 Days inflamed I just thought I had gas but when it started getting worse I figured it was more severe. They pumped me full of fluids, ended up gaining nearly 10 lbs in the 24 hrs I was at the hospital

Make sure to follow the surgeons instructions on restrictions regarding working out, etc.
Never has appendectomy but had laparoscopic surgery (usually the same type of surgery approach they used to remove your appendix). I was told I couldn’t lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for a couple of weeks.

I had mine at age 63 and don't recall it being a big deal. I was back to work in a week or so (desk work). I know it was sore for a while. Just can't say it was something that took me out for a long time. Like you said, do what you must and move on.

Laparoscopic appendectomies were the most common pediatric surgery patients we would have on the Peds floor.
Main thing is follow instructions on restrictions. But still make yourself get up and walk. Staying in bed for long periods of time not good as well. You have a lot of trapped air inside you from the surgery. Walking around helps you pass gas to remove the air. Otherwise it can cause horrible shoulder pain(usually right). Not sure why the right shoulder. I always told my patients about this....but experienced it myself after my laparoscopic surgery. It sucks. Besides walking, heat pads to my shoulders helped.
Thing is....if you get that kind of gas type pain....your pain meds won’t help at all.

Me. Doesn't take too long. After about a week I was feeling back to normal but a little sore. Doesn't take too long.

Interestingly enough my right shoulder was killing me last night (surgery around 8 am yesterday) feels much better today. I keep getting up and moving around every 2-3 hours. After this Percocet starts to die down I may do some light treadmill for a few mins.

Yeah that shoulder pain is no joke. I couldn’t even get comfortable enough to sleep well the first night cause of the shoulder pain.

Yea I have. My experience was almost identical to yours.
I was in high school though. I think I was about week getting back to school and 2 weeks lifting weights and getting back to 100%

I resisted taking pain meds in the hours after, but the pain got unbearable. I finally asked for a shot.
Felt instant relief as they injected the Demarol (or whatever it was) into me. Man, just take the meds. Never needed any after that one, but it was sweet.
Most people seem to get out right away these days, but I had to stay a few days. My guts didn't kick back in after the general anesthesia, and we had to wait until the plumbing was working and not just producing bile.

Had emergency surgery for mine when I was 8 years old... collapsed at school and was very close to having it burst.
I was playing baseball 3 days later... great parents

I had one when I was 19 years old. I was walking some pipeline canal levees while hunting deer and came down with severe cramps. By the time I made it out of the marsh and to the hospital I was in a world of hurt. They removed it and I went offshore five days later to help a welder change an ell in a flow line. Took the stitches out myself two days later using a Rapala filet knife.
