WWYD Changes to the Baton Rouge/ South LA Golf

You can make any changes to BR golf or the golf scene in Louisiana as a whole. Ideally, stay in the realm of reality, i.e. no one is tearing down the houses between downtown and LSU and putting a PGA level course.
I'd love to see BREC buy Sherwood Forrest and renovate it.
I'd love a membership that allows you to play all the major private courses, but not be an actual member at any of them. Like ClubCorp.
I'm sure if given the reigns of BREC, I'd spend a couple bucks and remodel Webb. Not significantly, but that course needs some character.

I'd love for BREC to close all but Beaver Creek, Santa Maria, and Webb (for the poors).
I'd love to see BREC purchase Copper Mill and get it into its OG form or as close to Beaver Creek condition as possible.

After playing Sweeten’s Cove earlier this year, and seeing what a 9 hole course can be, I’d love to see Bayou Country Club renovated completely. I’m a member for the pool and social events, but rarely play the course, because it’s just not fun.... tight as hell, most of the tee shots are awkward, tiny greens with little character, no drainage or irrigation and way too many trees that hurt agronomy.

Close City Park. Make it just a Central Park.
Close LSU. They are never going to invest anything into it. They cannot politically.
Close Clark. Why in the hell is this place open with Dumas right there?

CCL, BRCC, and UClub just aren’t letting anyone join some “group” and come play their course whenever they’d like, so carry on.

It wouldn't be whenever they want. I'm sure there would be round restrictions and tee time restrictions, etc. You would also obviously have to pay the clubs a hefty fee.
I would be OK with restrictions on tee times and such to have access to 3-7 courses instead of just one.
Edit: I think the one in Dallas has clubs all owned by the same group. But the principle still exists

They don’t need or want the outside play, otherwise they wouldn’t be private, so that’s something you’ll never see change in BR area.

1. I would get a damn range with lights for Baton Rouge

3. Create some sort of group or agency membership that would cover Carter Plantation, Greystone, Pelican Point, Copper Mill, and The Bluffs
If I had the money or the property, I would build a range with a par 3 course that circled around the range. Put up lights and start having weekly tournaments like rec league softball, flag fotball, basketball, volleyball, etc....

How much would you pay for a membership that allowed you to play Carter, Greystone, Pelican Point, Copper Mill and the Bluffs? I mean, considering all of those courses are semi-private and you can get on all of them.

I would pay around 3K a year to help save the bluffs and Copper Mill. Copper Mill is slowly making progress but The Bluffs is dying a slow death. Honestly, the other courses would never do this based upon their own success. Pelican seems to be doing better in the past year or two and actually feels like a private course at times. Greystone needs like 4 or 5 members to become private. (exaggeration...but they are moving in that direction)

Well 3 years ago when I tried to play Copper Mill, we were putting through packed mud. About 5 months ago when I returned there was grass on the greens, minuscule progress maybe if that huh
I think Pelican made some offer for like 150$ for three years and theres restrictions to the course. Unlimited Lakes play everyday, after 4 you can play the Links but cart fees still apply to both I believe....idk its a decent offer to attract people
Greystone is becoming one of my favorite places to play right now and it has little to do with the actual course

Would anyone play a 9 hole version of Webb if it was Sweeten's Cove esque? I mean, obviously it won't be that. But you could sell off the part on the other side of college to finance it and rework the existing holes.
Just not sure a top level 9 holer would do great. Although, I am really liking playing 9 holes on a restricted schedule.

I use to play Webb a good bit. Nice historical BRCC feel. Clientele ran me off. Ain't nobody got not 7 hours to play Webble because a bunch of golf illiterates are out there hacken around.
BR needs courses for those types to keep them off of the nice ones.
