They are not ignoring the issue. The true issue with the O-line this year and the program for the past 8 years is underclassmen declaring early.

It's not The L.F. 7's, or guice, or Key's. It's the Chris faulk's, The toby weathersby's, the clapp's, the freak Johnson's, the tolliver's etc that are really making it hard for the coaches to correct the issue.

If you had Clapp, Weathersby, and Tolliver (two didn't get drafted, one got drafted in the last round) this year. We would contend for a s.e.c. and n.c. There would be no weakness on the team.

LSU's inability to keep players, who are very good college ball players, that are low draft picks at best is really hurting the program. These kind of players are continuing to spring holes in the team.

the coaches obviously know the holes. They brought in the #1 rated tackle out of juco to address it. however, he turned out not to be as good as everyone thought. They brought in an outstanding kicker, they brought in a good qb. if we can find a way to keep some draft eligible players that are very good college ball player, we will have more consistency and less holes to fill.

Everyone should read this^^^

Regardless your opinion of our current coaching staff, this is one of the biggest hurdles LSU faces year in and year out.

Well said, baw

I know where you are coming from, but I would not put Clapp in with the other guys here. He redshirted and graduated, not the same as leaving without your degree. Clapp spent 4 years here much like many seniors do, he just only played 3 years.

I will say it still surprised me he left early, I knew Weathersby would because that was his goal from day 1 was to be 3 and done regardless. Clapp I thought would stick around for last eligible year, despite earning his degree, maybe he just didn't want to do grad school.

Good thing other teams like BAMA or Clemson don't have those problems.

I think we have a guy that can throw with accuracy and make good decisions if we can give him the time to do so.

They both have guys who declare early, but Clemson is not a good comparison at all. They have MANY MANY less guys declare early than us. In fact, they are building a nice culture of the opposite...their ENTIRE DL returned when many could have went pro and been high round type picks. You simply dont find that anymore.

Alabama just had Buggs return after a great season. Could have gone pro. They do have a lot of early defections, but they have recruited at the level to easily compensate for that where as we simply arent near that level.

Yeah, I remember seeing alot of pro Ensminger threads and I feel like people forgot that he was in control when O first took over and the offense looked dull. I don't know why with the addition of a QB that everyone thought he'd call more aggressive plays.

Jonathan allen, Reggie Ragland, Barrett Jones, just to name a few came back for their senior year at bama. I don't follow bama as much to know all their players, however, they do have more stay for their senior year than lsu does and they have far less low level draft picks declare. Usually the one's they have leave are higher round draft picks.

A undeniable fact is lsu has had more underclassmen declare than any other team since 2011 (8 years stretch). So, yes, it's a MAJOR ISSUE that other teams aren't having to deal with as much as us.

LSU refuses to bring in an offensive mind with a history of developing qb's. they deserve what they get.

I looked at Dandy Don's ratings - maybe not 247 but much easier to dig through and adequate for this point. In the last five years, he had only two OTs listed in his LA top 10. Willie Allen was ranked eleventh, signed with LSU and left. Adrian McGee was ranked seventh and started against Miami but got injured. Jerry Tillery was rated fourth overall, but was a die-hard Notre Dame fan so he went there and played defense. That's it So, the point is that LA just hasn't produced top level OTs and the only one in the last five years didn't want to come to LSU or even play offense. That means they have to look out of state. But good OOS tackles won't come until they see they can be developed. So, it's a vicious cycle. LA doesn't produce (m)any, OOS won't come until they see they can be developed, but no staff can develop players that don't have the potential to begin with. The only way to break the cycle is to start winning with the players that are already there, but three-stars, for want of a better description, don't become All-SEC overnight. (Dare Rosenthal was listed and recruited as a DT, although the common opinion was that he should switch to OT, which he has. Maybe he can break the cycle.)

The same holds true for quarterbacks. Name the last great LA HS quarterback. Again, per DD, Justin Rogers was ranked eighth but was never coming to LSU. Narcisse was ranked fifth and Scott, nineteenth, and we saw how they worked out. So, if LA isn't producing top-flight QBs, where are they supposed to come from? The current staff did well to hang on to Brennan (OOS but LA ties) and Narcisse last year, they got Burrow to come, and they have some good commitments for the next two years. It's all great to say, "Well, they should just snap their fingers and produce another Manziel, but how often does a guy like that come along? Most QBs, just like most other players, take some time to develop. If this team had a great QB that didn't transfer in, he would most likely have been recruited by Miles/Cameron. How many did they find?

Miles was a real piece of work. It was as though he thought offense was not necessary to win.

Hard to argue with this. Is there any other school that has done something this stupid previously. Promote the Dline coach over a much better DC? WTF? Ed Orgeron is our HC folks. Get used to it...

Almost like LSU fired a winning coach for one fault, only to hire an even worse coach with the exact same fault.

exactly, and many other teams too.

Occasionally there's a guy that leaves that's a surprise, but most of the time it's no surprise. The coaches know it's coming - they just have to plan accordingly.
