The decision to rush to the line after the Chase catch was great coaching.

If they gave that play time it would have been reviewed and would have been an incomplete pass. Some thought it was a touchdown but it clearly was incomplete. To not even risk it over one yard was great coaching. Even the commentators thought it was a touchdown.

It was the right move because it raeulted in 6 but ir was not clearly incomplete. He caught the ball, crossed the goal line and then began to bobble it as he fell.

If you watched that replay and still thought it was a touchdown you are helpless.

Then FSU tried the exact same thing Monday night and it failed miserably.

So would you rather the ball at the 30 or the 1? Because it’s not failing miserably even if you don’t get the touchdown

It was absolutely the right thing to do, and I give the staff credit for doing it, but I wouldn’t call it “great coaching”. Rushing the next play to avoid a review of a questionable call in your favor is a very common practice.

In the early days of replay, it was worthy of more praise, today it's coaching 101.

It’s a different rule In college. The retired ref explained it on the tv. It would’ve been called a catch. I agree though, heads up play by rushing to the line and not even give them a chance.

I would contend that the hurry up to the line and snap the ball was too keep miami defense out of sorts they were on their heels.

The fact that:
A) they had to go that far downfield
B) get the play in
C) get lined up
D) and got off a viable play (did score a rush TD)

was the great coaching. The intent to do all that is coaching 101. The successful execution of it is great coaching.

ETA: AND great field generalship; it doesn't happen without BOTH the coaches and Burrow.

Which again would be a good coaching move, would it not?

What??

FSU got no points on a ball that appeared to be a touchdown but they didn’t give time to review.

100% of the decisions that work out are the right decision. Ask FSU fans if their coaches, who made the exact same decision, were right.

Agreed. The decision to hurry up was made without the benefit of a replay. The coaches had no idea this was controversial. They hurried for tempo, not to prevent the review. And it was still a great call, just not for the reason the OP thinks.

How can anyone downvote this? It was a smart coaching move. Clearly the press box coaches saw the bobble, alerted I, and I directed the team to go fast and score. Great team coaching.

How about calling all 3 timeouts in the first quarter...was that great coaching as well?

You realize why they used those timeouts? Because of the new rule where playclock starts as soon as kickoff is over. It’s a new rule and players are adjusting. That doesn’t bother me considering they had it under control the rest of the game.

Coach was pissed at this. Did this occur any more?
