Tech news site T3 says that Sony is looking to get in ahead of the Xbox Two, codenamed ‘Xbox Scarlett’, by releasing the PS5 as soon as Christmas 2019.

The theory was first posted by Michael Pachter, the world’s foremost gaming analyst, who has a great track record of predicting industry movements. Rumours suggest that PS5 development kits have been doing the rounds for months now.

And now respected gaming industry analyst Hideki Yasuda, who works for the Osaka-based firm Ace Economic Research Institute, has backed up the claim that Sony is planning a sneak attack on its competition.

In a recent report, Yasuda said he believes that, "the introduction of the PS5 will be at the end of 2019".

Which likely points to a November release date, just in time for the holiday season. It would also give Sony a year’s head-start on Microsoft – that is, if we don’t see a surprise early release for the Xbox, too.

but that it’s dependent on whether Sony can get hold of enough monolithic ceramic capacitors (MLCC) to go around. According to a translation of the institute’s report by website DualShockers, MLCCs are being used in so many devices at the moment – particularly 5G smartphones and cars – that manufacturers can’t keep up with demand.

this is probably why the last of us part 2 hasn't gotten a release date yet.

Even in that thread we all said 2020 would be the earliest.

I work for a tech company that builds devices and capacitor shortages are real. We have had leading vendors send us videos they sent to all their customers explaining the shortage and hoping they can keep up. This was one of the larger providers in the world. Im sure Sony is very high on the list but this definitely could be an issue

Did that site just call Michael Pachter the "world's foremost gaming analyst, who has a great track record"

Are two very different things.

This is mainly the reason I'm holding off on a PS4Pro anyway, but if I'm less than 2 years from the 5 I'm likely definitely holding off now.

Explains the lack of FF7 remake news, too.

Bet it's a release title. If it is, that's a knockout punch.
