Buzz From Scrimmage

“Miami held its second scrimmage of preseason camp at Tropical Park on Saturday after scrimmaging the previous weekend at Hard Rock Stadium. The session was closed to both the media and public, but InsideTheU has a few notes below.
– QB Malik Rosier(6”1 215) tweeted late Saturday that the Hurricanes have a new 'three-headed monster' on offense. It appears that was in reference to the Hurricanes backfield. From what we heard both RB Travis Homer(6”0 207) and RB DeeJay Dallas(5”11 220) looked good under the lights along with FB Trayone Gray, (6”3 240 4.49 40) who had a pair of rushing touchdowns. Gray also got some time at running back and had some nice runs, as well.
– The defense by all accounts continues to make plays which has been the case throughout much of camp. CB Jhavonte Dean ( 6”2 185) came down with a pair of interceptions while S Jaquan Johnson (All american preseason) also had a takeaway. Freshman DE Greg Rousseau ( 6”7 250) had a sack at one point during the scrimmage while DE Jon Garvin (6”4 245) and DT Pat Bethel (6”2 285) spent much of the night in the backfield.

– While Gray probably had the biggest night out of anyone we also heard that WR Evidence Njoku (6”6 215 4.45 40) made a bunch of plays and continues to look like someone who will find his way onto the field this season.
– Freshman TE Brevin Jordan (6”3 250 2018 #1 247 composite) worked with the first-team offense – which was expected – and caught a number of passes including a post over the middle that went for around 40 yards. Fellow freshman TE Will Mallory (6”6 225 4.51 40)was active in the passing game, as well. Jordan also seemed to be more comfortable blocking than during last weeks' scrimmage which should be viewed as a positive given that he will likely start against LSU.”

Interesting that they’re labeling Gray as a FB. Sounds like offense had it’s way with the defense.

Miami runs scrimmages differently in the fall. Miami 1st team OFFENSE plays against the the 2nd team DEFENSE. While the 1st team DEFENSE runs against 2nd team OFFENSE. Guys mentioned for defense/off were mostly 1st teamers. Our defense been stifling our 2nd team offense since spring practice.

The idea is to get the backups better and more prepared by going against the superior players so that in games they used to the heighten level of comp if they are called upon. In spring practice, its best on best.

True, but at the same time wouldn’t that make your starters use to playing against lesser competition? I would want my starters battle tested going into the first game so they will be use to playing against 1st string talent.

Interdasting!

The offense was outstanding/dominant while the defense was championship caliber.

Now ruled the 4th law of physics!
