LSU’s defense had another dominant day while the offensive line showed improvement as the Tigers wrapped up training camp with their second preseason game here Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

quote:

“We’ve had a very successful camp,” LSU coach Ed Orgeron said. “Our guys came in to camp with a great attitude and great mindset. I’m very proud of our football team, our coaching staff and the job that they did in camp. Obviously it’s time to hit somebody else.”

Classes at LSU begin on Monday and the Tigers will start its preparations for the Hurricanes that afternoon with “Tell the Truth Monday”.

On Saturday, quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan took all of the scrimmage reps. Burrow connected on 10-of24 passes for 124 yards, one touchdown and an interception, while Brennan was 5-of-19 for 47 yards and an interception. Both quarterbacks were hampered by dropped passes by the wide receivers.

“I thought they threw the ball well,” Orgeron said of Burrow and Brennan. “They made some good decisions in two-minute situations. I thought a lot of passes were on the money but we dropped too many balls.

True freshman running back Chris Curry had his best day of camp, rushing for 35 yards on eight carries. Senior Nick Brossette rushed for 16 yards on six carries, while sophomore Lanard Fournette carried the ball five times for 13 yards.

“He’s a power runner and he showed us some things today,” Orgeron said of Curry. “He can run the ball between the tackles, but he has enough speed to go outside. I thought he lowered his shoulder pads and he made a lot of plays in between the tackles today.”

quote:

Freshman Terrace Marshall led all receives with three catches for 44 yards, including a 25-yard TD reception from Burrow. Tight end Foster Moreau caught a pair of passes for 28 yards and a host of Tigers had one reception.

quote:

Defensively, linebacker Damone Clark paced the team with five tackles, including a sack and a tackle for loss. Linebacker Jacob Phillips continued to have an impressive camp, registering five tackles, while defensive lineman Tyler Shelvin added four tackles and a tackle for loss in what was his best scrimmage since joining the Tigers.

“We had a very dominant day again on defense today,” Orgeron said. “Damone Clark had an excellent day and Tyler Shelvin had his best scrimmage as did Michael Divinity.

quote:

Orgeron said the Tigers worked all areas of special teams, except punt returns, which will be a point of focus next week. Graduate senior kicker Cole Tracy was 1-of-2 on field goal attempts, Orgeron said.

“Overall, we had a very good day,” Orgeron said of the special teams performance.

quote:

“We need to get healed up,” Orgeron said. “We’re banged up a little bit. Most of the things are just camp injuries and most of the guys I expect to get back for the (Miami) game. I think they need to get their legs back, get back fresh. We did a lot of banging and a lot of hitting. This is a physical camp but all of that stuff is going to heal.”

A few true freshmen were mentioned for their play - Chris Curry, Terrace Marshall and Damone Clark. Include Ja'Marr Chase, Kelvin Joseph, Dantrieze Scott and Chasen Hines. It is very surprising since the Rantards claim it was a horrible class.

I'm expecting good things game 1.

I wonder what Jordy is gonna say about Curry now.

Why would you expect anything else? The head coach said they've had a successful camp. Seems like it's all systems go to me.

yep, and going against the best defense in the nation has them battle tested. It’s gonna be fun watching the scoreboard explode

Y'all are fn delusional. Our offense is going to be the worst in 15 years here.

Y'all can say our defense is dominant all y'all want, they still have to react to offensive plays. It's going to be a long fn year.

I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks. Why would the head coach say it was a successful camp and that he was proud of his guys if he didn't believe they were where they needed to be to win?

He could easily say we have some things to work on or I'm not pleased at where we are right now, we're not ready to play a game just yet. He didn't have to say camp was a success.

People are moaning about the QB numbers but I would expect that they are working on higher level stuff that needs reps. That is one reason we had QB's on the field the last several yrs that could not throw over the middle. They did not get a lot of practice at it in Miles and Canada's offenses. I expect the numbers to get better.
If you just work on the plays that you already can execute well then you are not moving the needle. Anybody can throw the ball 3-4 yds down the field in the flats...

Well, let’s put it another way. Your little defensive coordinator over at Moo U is dog shite compared to Dave Aranda. So, yeah, seriously.
