Key word is "if."

Believe it or not, some women lie about being physically abused.

I know girls who claim every guy they've ever been involved with beat them. I know in at least one instance, it's patently false. If she'll lie to get back at him, how many of the others was she lying about?

Not saying this is or is not the situation here. However, it's one of many possibilities based on the limited information available.

Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman, and I HOPE such is the case here. Until something is known definitively, just gotta let it all play out and not jump to conclusions either way.
