I definitely wouldn't want to drop $100 at a nice course if I literally can't hit the ball.

If it is a scramble for fun, there is nothing wrong with playing IMO. No one can expect someone who doesn't play golf not to be terrible

You bring up a good point. If OP is comfortable with doing that AND his friends are well aware that he has literally never swung a golf club in his life and they STILL insist he come then frick it, go for it.

Just be sure to not hold the group up, don't look for lost balls. Just drop next to where your cart mate is and hit from there. Pick up when you swing and miss 3 times in a row.
