This was before the anthem protest and required Kaepernick to take a paycut and make less money than he did that year with the 49ers. Its not news and he'd have been stupid to do it.

Coming out with this right now is actually adding fuel to Kaepernick collusion case fire. Not a great decision by Elway to tweet this

He was never going to get that money again. I don’t see why this is relevant.

Also to this point, he had interviews with both SEA and BAL last year, and iirc the Ravens were ready to sign him until he backed out.

He was definitely on the 49ers when he protested, so you're completely wrong about that.

EDIT: As the story unfolds, details have emerged that the Broncos had set up a trade with the 49ers to acquire Kaepernick, but wanted him to reduce his salary by up to 42% or something to that affect. Kaepernick declined, thus rendering him a useless trade piece to any team that wasn't willing to overpay for a QB that had obviously regressed. I'm not sure exactly when this happened, but I am aware that his first "protest" was in the preseason, while he was sitting on the bench where he belonged.

Yeah I'm not understanding Elways play here. Not understanding the downvotes you are getting too for adding facts and context to the statement.

It was after.

Technically correct. But the alternative that he knew would happen was he'd be cut and make no money, so indirectly it would not have been a paycut because it would have been a job making more than $0.

Its not news and he'd have been stupid to do it.
He'd be stupid to take a job making money instead of getting cut and making no money if his goal was to play and make money?

How? It's saying he could have had a job in 2017 but chose not to.

Maybe i’m Dumb as shite, but how does a team offering him a contract throw fuel on the fire of a collusion case trying to say teams blackballed him from possibly receiving a contract

Wrong

He opted out, now he was going to get cut with his salary number anyway but 1 is greater than 0

Colin Kaepernick is willing to take a pay cut to play for the Denver Broncos, just not one as large as the reigning Super Bowl champions would like.

The Broncos are offering Kaepernick an annual salary of $7 million for the 2016 season and the 2017 season, a source close to the situation told CSNBayArea.com on Tuesday.

Kaepernick and the Broncos have "made progress" on a contract that would run through 2020, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday. But the finances over the first two years are not favorable for Kaepernick. Agreeing to Denver's offer would cost the 28-year-old quarterback $12.4 million in base salary, and potentially as much as $16.2 million, over the next two years. His current contract with the 49ers pays a base salary of $11.9 million for the 2016 season and $14.5 million in 2017.

Even if the 49ers were to release Kaepernick before April 1 of next year, the quarterback could earn up to $14.3 million in 2016 -- more than the $14 million he would earn in two years with Denver. Kaepernick would consider a deal with the Broncos that is slightly under his salary with the 49ers, according to the source.

But Kaepernick “made his statement” regarding Denver’s current offer by reporting to San Francisco’s offseason program. Kaepernick flew from Denver to the Bay Area late Sunday night after meeting with Broncos officials and arrived in time for the Monday morning start to the 49ers offseason program. The 49ers quarterback will receive a $400,000 workout bonus for 90 percent participation in San Francisco's voluntary offseason program. He spent the majority of his first day under Chip Kelly’s tenure in meetings with new quarterbacks coach, Ryan Day, and offensive coordinator, Curtis Modkins.

A trade between the 49ers and Broncos is still a possibility, but the discrepancy in salary would have to be settled by the teams. Kaepernick and the 49ers are at odds, specifically over the diagnosis of injuries he sustained during the 2015 season, but the 49ers are not willing to pay the $4.9 million difference in salary in 2016 to send Kaepernick to Denver.

By adding fuel, you mean that completely crushing his case I assume?

I'd like to offer my sincerest apologies to this poster.

7 upvotes/55 downvotes(neither from me) and 8 replies bashing him, and he was basically spot on after reviewing the timeline on this one IMO.

What? The anthem protest was Kaepernick's entire final season with the 49ers.

quote:

required Kaepernick to take a paycut

Well yeah. He was going to make $15 million on the final year of his 49er contract that he opted out of. What team is going to give that kind of money to someone that likely wouldn't even be a starter?

somebody needs to look up the definition of the word 'blacklist' before they ever post again on this board
quote:

n.
1. a list of persons who are under suspicion, disfavor, or censure, or who are not to be hired, served, or otherwise accepted.

So no one wanted him before his publicity stunt gone terribly wrong?

I think this helps the NFL’s case. Too bad they can’t depose his lawyers to learn how the protest idea was planned.

The only clear collusion in recent history would have to be L. Collins and D. Guice
