The buzz around the basketball team is very reminiscent of when Saban was brought on... Cautiously optimistic, killing it in recruiting, instilling discipline and program culture. All very positive things.

The buzz around the football team reminds me of the darkest of basketball a couple of years ago.. brought in a very safe, underwhelming hire in Johnny Jones. Wasn't the best X and O guy but damn he could recruit (Sounds familiar). It was Jone's dream job, "He was an LSU guy" (Ehhh this just keeps getting worse and worse)

SUre hope im wrong but we could be in for a very rough couple of years

Didn’t Johnny Jones land a top 3 class?

He had a #1 class that failed to make the NCAA Tournament.

Did we seriously have to bring up Johnny?

I think Ed O is much better. At least he can coach up the Dline which is pretty important in Sec.

No way man. You're right about Wade but wrong with Eaux. Losing elite talent in our backyard isn't a big deal. No need to jump off a ledge. As long as we get kids who want to be Tigers we will be fine

We'll have more success with O than with Jones simply by virtue of the learning and strategic involvement that comes from assistants in football.

Amen! I'm a 6' 155 pound Sophomore at LSU and I've always dreamed of being a Defensive Tackle for the Tigers. When does my scholarship come?

I think all you gotta do is go sign up at the football office bro. From what I've read recently this recruiting shite is kinda pointless as the head coaches are just taking whoever wants to play bc they can't convince kids on the fence and whatnot. I feel bad for Eaux being in that bind but I guess Saban and those guys are in the same boat....

Anyway yea man go sign up and best of luck!!

We'll have more success because LSU was a powerhouse recently in football. Ed is a worse hire though. Same dumb lazy reasoning for hiring both but Johnny was at least average in his previous head coaching.

To be fair (and not that it matters), it actually WAS Jones' dream job and he actually IS an "LSU guy"

Extremely reminiscent!

Cautiously optimistic

No longer a need for Tiger fans to be cautiously optimistic, every Tiger should be extremely excited about the present and future.

Similarities between Wade and Saban's start are shocking. Everything Wade said he wanted to implement/accomplish last summer and year he did and exceeded those expectations. The staff and the work the entire team put in easily accounted for an extra 4-5 wins in conference, Waters clearly being the best talent but they competed in conference when the league is at its best its been in 5-6 years as a whole. For most of the year Reath was the only true SEC caliber post player we had! Combined with all of the new pieces and the culture shock for the players.

The foundation is simple much like Saban, CWW has hired a great staff that either have been head coaches at the D-1 level or will be (Heiar especially and soon could get a P5 look he is that good, and Armstrong will be a head coach one day starting out at a Samford type school).

Recruiting- all 3 of the coaches unlike Jones bring specific target areas or league connections, whereas under Jones it was basically the assistants personal connections with recruits and guys like Temple/Brown to a lesser extent but by the end it completely fell apart and because they had no base to recruit from outside of LA we had a C-USA caliber roster. Wade's staff is the best JUCO recruiting staff in the country not an overreaction, and their prep connections extend from Texas to, MS, LA, AL, FL and pockets in Virginia and in the northeast catholic/prep league (huge huge deal). Much like Saban did, Wade is going to lock up the absolute must gets from LA but we are a player on the national level and we recruit 2-3-4 classes in advance.

Culture now much like Saban, absolute 100% accountability for the entire team, and those that do not gel have been purged very quickly. Wade has talked about it they are much further along and have a lot of leadership and in 2-3 years we will see raw freshman that will be all-SEC caliber by their senior years.

System- much like what Saban brought our teams going forward will be extremely athletic and versatile but very disciplined. There will be a lot more pressing this year and a much faster pace, in no way will it be like under Jones where guys are just running wild on the break and when that breaks down they ran 7th grade motion principles for 25 seconds then set a ball screen and threw up garbage. Last year CWW got to implement only about maybe 30% of the full range of sets and this year our primary and secondary fast breaks will be much much improved.

For those that havent followed or got so fed up with the previous regime, the best recent program I can compare CWW style of play and the type of team you can expect to see would be the good years of UCLA under Howland, or a Gonzaga like high end transfers, 3-4 year guys and a couple NBA talents. Superior athletes that are extremely versatile and have a few one and done type talents but tremendous 3-4 years guys that can be molded easily. The program is never going to be a one a done factory like a Duke now or Kentucky, its not going to be Villanova either, much more 4 out one in than what Jay Wright does now with 5 skilled shooters.

The major similarity is their attention to detail and refusal to accept anything short of excellence in every aspect, one thing Tiger fans should see is we will always under CWW now will have one of the smartest teams in the country, but extremely disciplined and very very tough. Guys like Lavalais, Mauck, Addai, L Landry, Spears, Bowes, those guys were very mature and just outworked everyone as well as being extremely talented.

Edwards, Smart, Williams, Cooper, and Kingbsy are just extremely tough hard working athletes that will be the hallmark of this program. Guys like Waters and Reid are the NBA talents that anyone can see the in the first minute of play they are also both tough northeast prep kids but its going to be the guys like Courtese Cooper that it wont show up in the stat sheet but will be the difference going forward of getting us to Sweet 16s every year.

Apples and oranges. Doesnt mean anything. Coach O hopefully can translate a mostly positive offseason into wins this fall. If we get fulton back I honestly think losing more than 3 games is unacceptable and hopefully the floor. For me no excuses if he goes 6 and 6.
