I havent seen it but it looks pretty awful and preachy from the previews. Is it worth a damn or should I skip?

Female stand-up comedy is like watching a new Star Wars movie. It will always let you down.

I watched it. or more accurately sat through it. I'm pretty liberal and I happen to think women can be as funny as men....this broad ain't one of them. Liberal internet is falling all over itself to praise this special as some sort of cultural milestone. It's not. It's a lesbian who spends half the time talking about being gay and the other half recounting a sexual assault with the final 15 minutes being an especially angry tumblr-esque rant, all with a delivery as dry as the turkey from Christmas Vacation.
Please use your time to watch a real legendary comedy: Necessary Roughness

I follow stand-up comedy quite a bit and have legit never heard of this person.

I think its more of a "one woman show" than a stand-up set.
The rush to anoint it as the "future of comedy" when it was, by all accounts, completely anti-comedy was a little puzzling to me.
Someone on my Facebook called it one of the most hilarious and inspirational things she had ever seen.
I guess I radically disagree with the idea that all jokes come from a place of exclusion and cruelty. And if you're tired of making self-deprecating lesbian jokes, I can assure you your audience is tired of hearing them - try writing something else.

I enjoyed most of it. It got very preachy at the end, but whatever. Is what it is.

I slogged through this. It took some doing. I didn't want to respond to my friends who were telling me that this was "the future of comedy" without seeing the entire thing.
The breakdown:
One part standup
One part Ted Talk on art history
One part rant against male hypocrisy and violent bigotry
I'm not sure how she could be the future of comedy when the point of her act is that she is done with jokes and comedy and she will go forward as a story teller. Her stand is that laughter is not the best medicine, hindsight and truth are.
This is all fine, and I understand her plight and applaud her for taking her stand. I even get the power of luring people in for a comedy show and then hitting them with a scalding lecture. It worked, her message is worldwide now.
But she's done as a comedian. If she does a follow-up it has to be a straight-up inspirational lecture and not a speech hidden in stand-up's clothing.
She did a great job of accomplishing what she intended to do. The disservice is from the people putting her in the position as "the future of comedy." Whoever is saying that didn't pay attention to what the woman was saying.

Huh? When has anyone ever justified their comedic style with that comment?
Is comedy being controlled or something? I always thought it was just whoever made you laugh and comedy evolved organically.
What a joke if this is what it takes to justify a failed comedy routine. frick the liberals.
