Pond management guys typically induce a low current to bring fish to the top so they can count them and verify species. After a little bit the fish "revive" and go back to swimming. They use this info to tell the pond owner what they need to add to the pond (be it other fish, food, fauna). They also tell the owner which fish need to be caught and which need to be released to keep a healthy pond.
