The 3 main reasons LSU Football 2018 gets no Pre-Season Love

1- Head Coach Ed Orgeron - not a proven winning Head Coach - only one way this changes Win Baby

2- LSU offensive coordinator - Steve Ensminger - After 2 decades he comes up to the plate again

3- LSU has no QB on the team that has ever started a college football game

There is also a 4th major issue - we open with 2 out of our first 3 games against top 10 teams

We will play 5 to 6 games against top 20 teams

When you drain your purple blood it is easy to see why we have been picked to finish 4th to 5th in the SEC West

I say - just beat Miami and get the ball rolling!

O and LSU have to prove that they are a power house again. O has a long way to go to prove the doubters wrong.

Agreed, well said. It’s easy to get caught up in all the Burrow hype coupled with our stout defensive potential but it is very understandable to see why non-LSU fans could be very skeptical of this team. Heck plenty of LSU fans need proof before jumping on the train-count me as one of those. I am hopeful but in no way convinced that this team and coaching staff has what it takes to be in any kind of title contention this year, especially with this schedule.

Hopeful is such a good word - we have hope for the best. When I listen to CEO speak what I hear is hope. Being a recruiter he is in his heart a salesman and at my house that is not a bad thing. We need salesmen to do what they do - it is the start of the process. Saying that we need him to be a Leader also. A leader of young men to become the most they can in a very short period of time.

I think Ed relates to the guys but he has to show that tough love that Nick does so well. You have to earn you PT and you earn that PT year round. I like what I am seeing from Ed with this but it has been such a short period of time.

I am not concerned about CSE coming through - just have a feeling that he is going to bring it. The Miami game will show the world that LSU is blessed with a group of WR's that might be young but boy can they ball. Listening to the coaches they have said they are going to have package groups and will play many many WR's each game. They have the group talent to do this and you know these guys are going to be hungry when they are able to come up to the plate.

Like most Tigers I see Joe being the man - all that time at OSU with a great QB coach and staff will be a blessing for LSU fans.

Joe will be the man! ? time will tell

I get why people are putting LSU where they are. I don’t think it is correct but I get it. What I don’t get is the Auburn love. Look at their schedule and what they lost from last year’s team. For some reason the same logic for LSU doesn’t apply to them. Yes they get their QB back but not much outside of that. Also Auburn and Malzahn’s history shows when they are expected to be good they aren’t.

Careful Cliff. I've been called miserable, a negatiger and a hater for much less than this.

I happen to agree with you 100%. There just some unknowns and Coach O has had a few bumps in the road up to this point, so people are skeptical. That doesn't mean he can't get it done this year in a pivotal season for him. I think we see a much less conservative coach than last season because he's gonna trust his OC more.

Actually you left off the biggest reason, and that is the narrative out there that says lsu is #120 in returning starters, out of about 128. It isn't true, but most of the media doesn't bother doing their own homework.

4 - we don’t return any RBs or WRs that the media has seen. This year’s group could be better than last year’s but the media hasn’t seen them so they can’t be confident in what we have.

Curry and CEH will be competent. The WR group will be an upgrade. Chark was reliable last year, but that’s about it. Gage, a converted DB, was not a polished route runner.

I believe that the RB group as a whole really surprise people this year, especially the 2 you mentioned in CEH and Curry.

People are sleeping on Curry because he was “only” a 3*. He got hurt his senior year which held him down in the rankings, but he had offers from major programs across the country.

I'm really hoping that we get the Coach O that has learned from past mistakes and that all of the changes are positive ones. It's not some hot take, but if this offense can get going, this is going to be a good football team.

Dude for the 7th time, a returning starter is a starter from the previous season that started the overwhelming majority of the games. You keep saying the above in every thread that brings it up and you’re laughably wrong.

You don’t include players who have started 1-2 games in their career or previously played for another team. It’s not a narrative that we return 10 starters. It’s a fact. Quit embarrassing yourself.

1) bama, 2) bama, 3) bama. bama is the SEC Network's flagship product. The SEC Network has a $3 billion contract with espn/abc/disney. Sell the flagship product nationwide, at the expense of other schools.

You’ve mentioned this several times and I’m interested in seeing how they arrived at these rankings. Do you have a link? I’ve seen where we’re in the 120’s in returning production, which has nothing to do with starters, but I’m curious about the other list.

Thanks

That is the key question. As an interim, he connected with players and united staff. Can he combine those attributes with discipline and consistency? Last year, he fell short with disappointing losses to teams we should have beaten. This year he has to take that step by beating every team he is supposed to beat and at least 1/2 of those he is not supposed to beat.

He seems more at ease this off-season. Hopefully that translates to on-field success. Miami is huge game in terms of seeing if team plays up to potential.
