Should we?

According to a Friday morning report by Yahoo's Shams Charania, Ferrell has backed out of plans to re-sign with the Mavs, instead opting to re-enter free agency."

The 6-foot Ferrell, 25, was one of the most effective backcourt players last season, averaging 10.2 points, 3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He played nearly 28 minutes per game and was the only Maverick to play in all 82 games.
Should we?

He wants more than the $5.3m guaranteed he was going to get from the Mavericks...we don't have that to offer

Yeah but does he really expect to get more than that? If he goes a while without getting signed he’ll be crawling back looking for anything.

Only half of that was guaranteed.

yogi for the minimum would be a steal

Yogi ain't playing chess, he's playing checkers. His agent must have a better deal lined up, he's not taking less money to play for someone else.

He obviously got a better deal from someone else, yeah. Could be the same money but fully guaranteed.
It isn't us because we can't offer 5.3million under any scenario except a trade.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the statement that was made when Shams reported it. It was weird, I don't I've ever seen a Shams tweet worded like his.
quote:
Sources: Free agent Yogi Ferrell has agreed to a two-year, $5.3M deal to re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Ferrell was promised the backup shooting guard position to start next season.
I wonder if the backing out had something to do with the bolded part of that tweet. It obviously came from Yogi's camp.

Per shams considering us and Cleveland.
I’d think he’d take less money for a possible bigger role and try to make himself more money next year when there is a lot of cap space available.

But that’s just my guess.

New free agent Yogi Ferrell is fielding interest from several teams, including Cleveland and New Orleans, and plans to decide within the next day, league sources tell Yahoo.

Just messing, bud

his name is Yogi but he looks like Boo Boo

Which makes me think it's more about a role than the money. If he's playing on a one year "prove it" deal, 500k is a drop in the bucket if you're going to get a larger role.

I thought Ferrell was a 1?

Yep sounds like he’s looking for a chance to show out

He's a combo guard. Damn good shooter. Short so that could hurt defensively but can create offensively. Would be a solid backup in this offense.

If he’s worried about money, can we do a potential sign and trade with Dallas using one of our trade exceptions?
Offer him 1 yr 3.8 mil? Seems like kind of a waste for that exception honestly.
Holiday, Payton, Moore, Clark, Yogi, Frank Jackson.
I’m not sure we can offer Yogi much more of a role than he was promised in Dallas. He will likely be competing with FJ for 5th guard minutes so I think the only way he comes to New Orleans is if Pels find a way to pay him more than the minimum, bc he won’t get many mins to showcase himself for his next deal.

Yeah, we must be promising him far less money but a starting role next to Jrue.
What can Cleveland offer monetarily?

Per MM, Moore is starting at SF. Yogi would be the third guard behind Jrue and Elfrid.
We could have the weirdest first names for a guard rotation in all of basketball. Jrue, Elfrid, and Yogi
