Our young players give me hope.

I don't disagree, but it's so classic USMNT fan to switch over to a new savior already

I love McKennie and think he's our 8 for years to come, but Pulisic dragged our sorry arse team out of a hole in the Hex at the age of 18 and deserved to be a breakout star in this World Cup.

We have some promising guys that can play the 6 and the 8 in McKennie, Adams, Durkin, Delgado, and Parks. We really need someone to fill that void as a 10

I just don't know how much he had left to give. He looked exhausted near the end of the season and looked like one of our worst players at the pre-WC friendlies.

The true "10" isn't as prevalent anymore. Even guys like De Bruyne are playmaking from deeper positions. We don't "need" a 10. We need to build a playing style that takes advantage of our athletic and physical young center mids (Adams, McKennie, Parks, etc) and our fast, aggressive wingers like Pulisic and Weah (hopefully) and athletic fullbacks like Yedlin and Robinson.
I think we miss the boat when we try to turn into a possession team. We should really be turning ourselves in to a dangerous counter attacking team. With our young legs in midfield, we can hopefully employ an effective press and counter style.

I could only upvote you once, so I'm quoting your post to basically upvote my quote of your post.
FYI - I don't think we should purely be counter-attacking (it won't necessarily always work well in qualifying) but we need that as a primary weapon/style but mixing in some different degrees of tempo and also the ability to release pressure over phases. We have a lot of young guys who *could* develop really well into that type of season. Hell Sargent could become great at both the counter and the pressure release striker.

Yeah obviously against the shitty CONCACAF teams of the world, you have to be able to control the tempo and possession better than you would against a top side, but I think we need to have an identity that we can rely on.

I think Tyler Adams is our captain of the future.

USMNT hasn't had a "savior" since 2010.

Despite my previous post I actually agree. I would rather us play with a 3 man midfield comprised of a true 6 and 2 athletic as hell box to box CMs that will hound the shite out of the other team. I was just saying if we keep trying to force someone into the 10 role then we really need someone to step up into it

We were pretty good in the Portugal friendly at that and I think it could be a glimpse into the future of what we can do. McKennie and Adams hounded them when they had the ball and it led to some good countering chances and a goal

From all accounts it sounds like the young leader of this group is McKennie

Just saying, there's a reason Adams was often the captain when he was in the same camps as these guys.

Has there been a player whose hype and future rave got buried so quickly like Kellyn Acosta? Guess that's what happens when everybody goes to Europe and you stay in MLS.
