Man honestly I just went through a year plus of hunting and testing used trucks to replace mine. The truck market it so damn ridiculous now that I would tell you to look real hard at buying a new one if you plan on keeping it 10 years and giving it to your child. I mean the peace of mind knowing I did the maintenance and took care of it alone is important to me if my kid is driving it across the country.
You are not going to save much on a preowned truck over 10 years. That coupled with the fact you get a 5 year warranty to take you halfway there is another huge point for going new. You are going to automatically take on a good bit of risk buying a used truck, of any brand, with 100k+ on it.
I hunted for over a year to find my Tundra and it was a unicorn that I had to fly across the country to get. I had the luxury of time to hunt for it, but if I didn’t I would have easily bought new. I have my third kid in the way as well and the Tundra crew cab dwarfs my old GMC, it also has ac vents which the GMC did not have in the rear of the crew cab, big deal for little ones.

Yeah I’m not in a huge hurry. I’m thinking 6 months or so of making this work. Id rather think long term than jump into something just to have more space. I have school carpool to think about but I’ll be taking one of mine and one neighbor. Not a long drive and they can both climb up front once I’m in line at the drop off.
