Photos of an American hunter posing with the dead body of a "rare" black giraffe she is reported to have just killed during a hunt in South Africa have sparked outrage.
The pictures emerged after they were posted on Twitter by the South Africa-based AfricLand Post website.
Accompanying the post, which shows two pictures of Tess Thompson Talley of Kentucky, were the words: "White American savage who is partly a neanderthal comes to Africa and shoot down a very rare black giraffe courtesy of South Africa stupidity. Her name is Tess Thompson Talley. Please share".

However, comedian, actor and animal activist Ricky Gervais, tweeted that "Giraffes are now on the 'red list' of endangerment due to a 40 per cent decline over the last 25 years. They could become extinct. Gone forever." He criticised Talley, calling her spoiled, and anyone else hunting giraffes.
Actress Debra Messing also did not hold back. "Tess Thompson Talley from Nippa, Kentucky is a disgusting, vile, amoral, heartless, selfish murderer," she raged.

I don't see why anyone would want to hunt a giraffe... but hey, good for her I guess.

yeah, i don't get it. hunting giraffes sounds dumb.

Giraffes are on the endangered list because of hunting and this chick’s response was that the hunt was a conservation effort.

First you make a roux.

I'm a hunter. I just don't get why you'd kill something you aren't going to eat. And, you know after Cecil the lion, people are going to come after you hard. I just don't see how it's worth it.

These hunts are typically used to get rid of a single animal that is a nuisance. Like this particular giraffe was attacking other giraffes, or disturbing local villages.
I wouldn’t care to ever hunt a giraffe, but if the local village was going to kill it anyway, why not make someone pay them 50k to do it?

She deserves it. No need to kill an innocent giraffe.
My issue is with the disproportionate response of the public. That dentist's life went completely sideways because of the lion a couple years ago.

I am a hunter as well but if you told me I could hunt a giraffe legally, I would. Now I would want to make sure the meat/bones were put to good use and it isn't just a sporting kill.

Which is exactly my point. If you know there has been previous outrage for something similar in the past, she is a buffoon for doing the same thing and especially for posting pics on social media.

Attention is usually the answer.

Agree. She had to know she was sticking her neck out there for criticism in this day and age.
