killing bean and corn prices

Really?

06/29/2018 11:20 AM Corn stocks in all positions totaled 5.31 billion bushels, up 1 percent from last year. Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 1.22 billion bushels, up 26 percent from last year.

Granted little different than the spot price but it won't be far off, especially since most grains are contracted in advance... The stocked amount is having WAY more impact that any tariff...

Also, USDA predicting surplus crops for grains and stocks that were in place before any affect of tariffs...

Germany operates on a different set of rules than the US when it comes to business. If you have worked much with germans, you find that out pretty quickly. Worker councils often are really influential, and they often will do things that don't make sense to us.

I will say that with germans sometimes it takes a bit of pestering to get them to do what you want. I have no experience with steel though, so maybe its different.

this seems like a good business opportunity for someone else. Maybe if we hadn't let Europe and Asia rape us for 30 years with trade barriers against our steel while selling theirs here freely this guy wouldn't have his problem and the mill down the street from him could crank out his super secret special steel no problem. Gotta start rectifying the situation somewhere, and it's gonna pinch a little to start

How much do you know about steel? Be honest.

If there was a market for this type of product, there would likely be other manufacturers already.

It's sounds like you are in procurement. Just a suggestion: maybe talk to these steel mills and ask them what steel specs are readily available and pass the info to the engineers (and let them know the procurement issues you are having). They will likely have to design the separator(s) with more material however the cost of additional material will likely be offset with the procurement issues you are having with the desired spec.

That is certainly something that will be on the table if the material simply can’t be found, but I assure you it will be a nightmare of red tape and safety concerns.

ETA safety concerns because the steel is specifically for prevention of cracking from hydrogen attack, this vessel is in hydrogen service at a very high pressure, so the safety concerns are extremely relevant. The tank could explode.

I'm with you. I understand the red tape issues. It becomes a big pain in the arse when you have to divert from pre-approved processes and damn egos get involved too.
