Prominent High School Coach from Fla.

Sat with a very successful high school coach from GA/Fla and talked LSU football. This guy has had players that are at Clemson, FSU and Bama among others
He said LSU fans, like himself, need to understand the golden age of LSU football is over and being second, while may be hard to accept, is where we are right now. He has never in 25 years of coaching at 6A schools seen anything remotely close to what Saban has done in sustaining that level of excellence - not even Bear Bryant. Bryant had seasons where he would be competing for 2-3 in the conference.
When I said, you have to look at the past as a predictor of the futur, his response was, Carroll, Ole Ball coach and many many others wouldn’t be anything without failure. Even Saban and Belichick failed.
He complimented Orgeron by saying he is a great recruiter and the best DLine coach in the NCAA by a long ways.
Of course this guy is a Defensive minded coach as a former dlineman.
He has zero affiliation to LSU, except growing up in La.
He said people need to be patient and let this staff work. He wasnt a big Miles fan because he called Les when he had 2 kids he wanted him to see and they ended up signing with Bama.

That’s probably because high school football and college football are two total different animals

So much Sunday drinking going on, or at least I hope that's the excuse for the mindless drivel of some of these posters.

Bull shite. Never stop striving for excellence and be the best program possible every day.
He said specifically about his run at Bama. Said even Bryant would have a 7-8 win total season now and then. Nobody has sustained this level of excellence as long as he has.
It has nothing to do with other coaches as it does to be level he has takenthat program and nobody in college football can compete at that level for as long.

So, this guy says to just give up? I realize you're just the messenger. I just think it's bullshite to say "oh well, frick it, we can't beat that guy."

He didn’t like Les because he didn’t help Les? I don’t get this statement.

We have haven’t finished second to Saban since 2011. We are currently finishing behind Miss State.

quote:He didn’t say that at all. Just said that it isn’t a reason to bash O like I have been. He said coaching is a hard sport and even great coaches fail. Sometimes a coach isn’t great until he has really failed hard including Saban at Cleveland and Miami.

Once since 2000, in 2014. That's not "currently".
